When did the definition of a "lot" change?

I just spent a half hour searching for a "lot" of microUSB cables and am quite disgusted.  I see a "lot" being offered for a price, but when I go to the listing, I find out that there is indeed no "lot" for sale but rather you can select the quantity you wish to purchase.   Here's one example:

LOT 1_10pcs 3ft LED Micro USB Charger Data Sync Cable For most Cellphone Blue S2

Brand New
  • $4.00
  • Buy It Now
  • Free Shipping

I see the above as saying "Lot #1 consists of 10 pieces of 3 ft cables for $4.00".  But that is NOT in fact true.  You go into the listing, and ONE cable is $4.00.  You can indeed select quantity 10, but it is NOT $4.00 by a long shot.  This is very misleading and the prevalence of this sort of thing says that eBay allows this type of misrepresentation.

eBay should not allow sellers to list a "lot" when in fact they are not selling a "lot".    "Lot" means a number of like items being sold as a single unit.  A "dozen eggs" is one example of a "lot of 12".

The above ad should have read something like:

3ft LED Micro USB Charger Data Sync Cable For most Cellphone Blue S2

Brand New
  • Quantities: 1 - 10   {indicating that you can purchase anywhere from 1 to 10}
  • $4.00 - $13.48       {indicating the price ranges from $4.00 for one to $13.48 for 10}
  • Buy It Now
  • Free Shipping

THAT would be a more honest, fair and true representation for that listing.

Why is eBay allowing this b*st*rdization of the word "lot" and allowing misrepresentation of what is being sold for what price?

'Lot' can have a lot of different meanings and can vary a lot.

Consider that 'Lot 1' to be a box on a table at a flea market with $4 written on the side of it and 10 3' cables inside.  Some might consider it $4 for the whole box, but it generally means each item in the box is $4

OK kids, time to get the Dodge loaded up again. I hear 'Poppy's By the Tree' calling. This trip might be a long one too.

Something I can't get used to is eBays term "Bundle Listing". I think you can narrow the search by clicking that on the right (the other right-edit) side.

The terminology is used in live auctions to refer to any item or group of items but since this is most likely a chinese seller and isn't auctioning it seems they are misusing the term, in the traditional sense those numbers and such are used to easily locate the item after an auction.
