Does 100 Bid Retractions in 3 1/2 months sound like a lot? I had a Buyer who bid on 2 items, then a day later retracted a bid on one of them ... after some research I learned they have 100 retractions in 3 1/2 months ...
I am almost thinking of canceling their current bid and putting them on the BBL and moving on ... then if they message and ask why I can explain my concerns about them having too many bid retractions in such a short period of time ...
However, I am curious, what would you do?

I would leave their bid in place but put them on your Blocked Bidder List. If they win that auction, they'll never notice; if they retract their bid, they'll never notice (no need to cancel it); if they try to bid more, then they'll notice. They will probably know exactly why, too; I doubt that 100 prior retractions all went unnoticed by the previous sellers.

i think a lot of bidders don't know the difference between putting something in a cart and bidding. I'm not sure what I would do but I understand how it happens. I think I would end up doing what you are thinking of. Good luck

In this case the two items are Auctions so I assume the understand the concept of "bidding" since there is no Buy it now option on the listings ...

Thanks AC, I had that one in the back of my mind too, even jotted their ID down so I could do it ... some of the other Sellers they've purchased from sell the things they've bid on from me ... I have about 7 items of its kind up on Auction ... I almost want to see if they bid on one of the other like items ...

Without knowing how many listings they have bid on it is really a meaningless number.
Other than retractions done for nefarious reasons (bid shielding), I don't really see an issue with retractions, certainly prefer them over non-paying winners.

Let it ride. You might get a sale......then again......you might not. ( sales are hard to come by )

Nothing, because I never would have researched them in the first place. I just honestly don’t care.
Besides, do they pay their wins? That’s all that really matters.
Oh, wait. I don’t care about unpaid items, either. I just let the autosystem handle those.
You seem really successful, why do you worry over this stuff?

Sounds like a candidate for the block list.

Actually, I wouldn't classify it as worried. I actually am seeking opinions and they can be all over the board, that I don't care about because each one has its merits even though they may be diametrically opposed ...
I don't use the automatic UPI setting, in most cases I will give Buyers up to a week to pay on Auction wins. Most pay, its rare that a UPI gets processed.

I would think that eBay would monitor this and too many bid retractions would trigger an Abusive Buyer alert. If not, this should be something that eBay rolls out to help protect sellers.
I think 10 Bid Retractions in a 1 year period would be a good number to trigger a warning to the buyer, that they are about to be restricted on the site.
In the hundreds of purchases I made (almost all auctions) I can't ever remember retracting a bid.

Have a trusted friend outbid them and buy the item. Pay the fees and forget about it, put them on BBL.

It makes perfect sense because I’m too busy to waste time with paranoia over customers. And it hasn’t bit me you know where yet, in 18 years.
Whats the point of doing business with the public if you don’t trust them?

You could just keep your fingers crossed and hope you are #101, but I would do everything possible to fix this right now. Not paranoid, but I don't look at eBay through rose colored glasses either.
