Hey there...I'm an ex-horror/sf/fantasy writer! Used to go to all the cons and hang out with the big guns. The publisher parties were the best. I actually was a guest at WorldCon one year. Then I went into writer's block, but segued into writing music. Hubby and I have a CD out and it's doing ok.

I'd love to read the story...maybe PM me?

I used to buy and sell used mainframe computer parts.   This was back when computers were 6' tall.   Even after PCs came out, you'd be surprised how many companies still had these old clunkers in the back room.

I also used to write poetry back in the early 90's . I believe in a total of around 60 individual poems . Some were for children ,, some comedy and others had a mystic  flair to them . One poem titled '' Unclear about beer '' was considered for publication by the heavenly muse in Canada  but after a long wait  they finally  turned it down 😞  . One poem  titled '' The animal soul '' is still hanging up on the wall of our local ASPCA .  I was never a professional  but some of my stuff was good  . Tulips

I'm a retired technical writer. Now I think of myself as a slash person: occasional freelancer / part-time retail wage slave  / eBay seller / crafter.

The last job on that list is the one I like!

Long ago substitute teacher -- banking, IRA and Keogh retirement account specialist -- 20 year legal secretary, unemployed/retired close to 10 years now.   I'm loving not working, but miss the higher and steady income, not that eBay sales help too much.  HA!!  (BTW, I sell on another ID.)

Oprah may have quoted "There's No Tougher Job Than Being a Mom" however I respectfully disagree, try being a father sitting in the park watching your children and have SWAT put a gun to your head all while a [W] horde of unknown wine laden mothers call you a pedophile.

Seriously that only happened once, but being a single father with a major in electronics and minor in chemistry who also homeschooled his boys I was looked down upon by just about every stranger.
As far as an occupation goes I was an industrial automation & instrumentation engineer, once my boys became of age I opened a computer repair shop and in the last five years semi-retired to part-time trucking for the USPS.

I am now fully retired only selling one or two items a month but more importantly, I get to day drink and read the forums giving snarky replies. Anybody else ever look at their forum specs? it seems I have read about 300,000 posts here on just this one ID... btw my baby is forty years old.

Those were good times, even when IBM reduced the size of their AS400 series to that of a refrigerator and there was no such thing as the stolen msDOS or misappropriated zeroxGUI but rather good old fashioned software like Unix using dumb wyse terminals where the "kill" command fixed most problems...

What's your day job?

This is a nice change from all of the ranting we do!

I worked in hospitality since I was 15, last 7 years I had the most fun job working as a pool bartender at a boutique hotel (I actually transferred from management to do this when the position opened). I loved this job, but then I got sick with a chronic illness... I had always sold part time back in the days of a site called Authentic Forum.

Started selling home decor on Mercari and a "local site"and  made enough to finally leave my job that I could barely do anymore. Now I stage homes p/t for my husband's business when needed.

Never a steady income, but don't have to put on makeup most days.

Balance😁

With a bit of hyperbole, this could be a good Reddit post...

Do you know anything about depression from people who recently retired? asking for a friend.

I miss DOS.  But I think it's just because I miss my youth.
