Reading many of your posts about the warnings of return rates, I’m curious to know your percentage- I sell technology and am at 3.16%. Just wanted to get a feel for the community’s rates. Thanks

Mine should be 0.21%, but it is 1.31%, but you can't fix stupid. (or inattention to detail)
I had one item that tested good before shipping, but was defective when returned. I have to own that one.
I describe items well, include their application, and provide detailed photos.
My returns are from buyer errors. eBay shows buyers an item that looks similar to what they are looking for, and they make the purchase. Sometimes zero available of what they want, and eBay shows them my item(s) for consideration. They are thrilled to have finally found the item they need, and jump on the purchase. That has happened at least 3 times for me.
After the item arrived, one buyer, when opening a return, even provided a photo to show what they needed, and told me the item that I sent did not look like their item. Very true. The photos that I provided in the listing did not look like theirs, nor did the description state that it was for their application.
Another bought 2 items. Return requested. Ordered wrong thing. Right in the return the buyer admitted that they bought the wrong item. We messaged, I accepted the return. Buyer used his own label. Had to do a refund.
Listed the items the buyer wanted. (or at least what he said he wanted) Photos were provided before listing, and in the listing. Purchase made. Guess what? One item was not correct. 3rd try the buyer actually looked at the photo to confirm it matched his needs.
Still count as returns.

I agree castle. But CS refused to pursue it. I even had an email from the buyer stating that she would like to withdraw the return request. If Ebay is going to penalize sellers with higher fees due to returns, they need to have a better screening process.

.86%
TRS and not striving for higher. Too much of an extra hassle.

My return rate is currently 1.79% but has been as high as 3% in the past. The majority of my items are from business liquidation or surplus and can't always be tested so I expect returns and am very generous about what I will consider a defect or damage; overall it is a fairly low return rate for the type of business I am in.

I sell mostly vintage jewelry, with a few other vintage items as well. My return rate is 1.35%. I do not accept returns, unless of course the item is damaged. My category is pretty subjective, and because I don't accept returns, I have had a few of buyers say the item was not as described. I even had one lady nearly destroy a bracelet, scratching the heck out of the back of it with a pin, just so she could return it. I just got a message from eBay saying that if your SNAD rate hits 2%, you will be charged 4% higher seller fees. Mine is currently 1.09%. I have not attempted TSR, because I think theire requirements are absurd! So I already pay higher fees. I just had a return request, that I had not yet accepted, because I wanted to review the listing first. I intentionally did not click "continue", because I have mistakenly accepted a return before, but when I clicked over to another tab, eBay says I accepted the return. This is becoming a real pain, and I really think they are trying to squash small sellers. And it seems to be working!

12 returns in the past Year:
5 - Remorse Returns - Buyer paid return fee
4 - Item Damaged by USPS - Lost my shipping fee because USPS doesn't pay shipping fees on damage
3 - Changed Mind (Filed SNAD) - SAID they changed mind but filed SNAD / eBay backed them up
Those three SNADs are exactly why I will NEVER do Free Returns. The cost of those three returns was significantly MORE than the paltry discount I would get from being TRS+. Also, it is NOT worth the risk that those 5 Remorse Returns would have been paid by me just so I can get a Badge on my Listing.

@2013fitzp In the area of collectibles, vintage toys, models, trains, cast iron, etc. return rate at about 1.47% ... about 8 - 10 if memory serves for whatever time period they keep the metric ... 12 months I think at my level of sales, not the 90 day time period of higher volume sellers.

Mine is 0.89% but almost none of those were "item not as described"
I sell a lot of fragile items and would double box, pack exceptionally well, and use lots of packing materials + fragile stickers, but lots of stuff would end up completely shattered due to rough handling by mail workers.
So that's where the majority of my returns are.
The rest of my returns are from people who simply did not read a description. Ie, when I listed a few Furbies and some worked and some didn't. I made it very clear which ones worked and which ones didn't in the description, and someone bought several working and non-working Furbies from me and opened up an "Item not as described" case against me because they thought ALL Furbies worked. So yeah, I have a tiny % being not as described returns but the majority is either breakages that happen in the mail or buyers simply having remorse and opening requests with the reason "I just didn't like it."

I am using 2 selling accounts at this time.
Main account, selling new collectibles, at .26%, 11 out of 4136 sales. TRS plus account, I do give free returns. So far, since March, it has cost me $8.00 for one remorse return.
Second account, selling new and old collectibles and yard sale finds, at 0 out of 450 or so sales. Not a TRS, I do accept returns but they are not free.
