They bought a t shirt and added a buyer note to "Please ship it in a package so it will fit in my large mail box."
Is this a typo (I started a recent post about typos that actually mean the opposite) or just a useless sentence?

I think he means "Please package it so it will fit in my mailbox."
He wants the carrier to put it in his mailbox instead of leaving it on the porch or in the apartment building hallway which is more inviting to thieves. (Or so it will fit in his PO Box so he doesn't have to go to the counter to retrieve a package.) In some locations, a carrier will leave a pickup slip for ALL packages so the buyer has to trek to the Post Office to pick it up.
In other words, compactly.

He's telling you he has a large mailbox (so, assume typical on the pole like the type that kids hit with a baseball bat whilst driving a pickup truck). But, you can google earth their address and see if it's a house with a mailbox like that...

Or worse, propped up on the rural box like I have if the package is too large, out there for anybody to see, and in the elements should it rain or snow. I had $90 sheets delivered this way.
Buyer wants you to not put it in a box but put it in a poly mailer so that it will fit into their mailbox, yep.

Flexible envelope. Or padded large mailer.

I have all kinds of buyers that spell English words properly but arrange them in the most incomprehensible ways.

Buyer is requesting your compliance.

I get these messages sometimes when they have those lockbox mailboxes in big cities, their carrier leaves a key for a numbered box, but if it doesn't fit, they have to retrieve from the post office.

To me it is clear. They didn't want you to use a box or hard sided mailer that would not fit into their mailbox. I get that. And it is a Tshirt, so you should easily be able to package it to fit into a large mail box. I think you are trying to over think their request. It seems simple to me.

Buyer,
I received the note you placed on the order. I ship t-shirts in poly mailers so they are flexible and will fit in average sized mail boxes. Since your mail box is large there should be no issue.
Seller
If the buyer intended to say something different, like their mailbox is actually small not large, they will probably reply and tell you. If they come back saying their mailbox is small then you can point them towards the USPS tracking page where they can submit delivery instructions - for example, having the package held at the PO if they don't want it left on their porch.

Yeah but it doesn't matter. It is the buyers responsibility to have a safe place to have mail delivered.

Which is exactly why the buyer made a reasonable request. It's a T-shirt and the packaging should be able to easily fit in their mailbox. So by bringing this to the seller's attention, the buyer is IMHO acting very responsibly to help ensure the package arrives safe and sound.

To me it’s confusing and I wonder if they don’t speak English well. It makes me wonder if what those here are saying is correct the buyer wants it just to fit in fhe mailbox or if the buyer is trying to say they want it in a box and that their mailbox is large enough to accommodate a box...

I think they mean to ship the shirt in an large envelope so if need be it can be folded to fit in their mailbox .. That's my take anyway . Tulips
