What is the solution for seller burnout?

Been pretty burned out on selling on eBay like some other people I know.  Decided for February I would neglect my eBay duties and only put in minimal effort.  Still managed to do a decent amount of sales regardless.  With all my spare time I went through my inventory and got rid of about 20 truckloads of stuff.  Even grew other aspects of my business.  I probably won't stop selling here, but at the same time putting less effort in was nice.  It leaves me to wonder though, what do other sellers do to deal with burnout when it comes to selling on eBay?

Ironically this is what I do for fun.  I like tinkering with electronics.  I just don't like dealing with eBay's shenanigans...  I got a Cray Institute J90 air cooled vector processor supercomputer a while back for funsies.  Could have had an Imsai 8080 recently, but the bad 2019 4th quarter on eBay kinda killed the fun money pool.

*blinks* Crays have always fascinated me.  They're so Outer Limits.

OK, and speaking of perks, I have learned about the strangest, most interesting things on this job, and I have to keep learning - it feeds the mind.

mam,

If the money is already in a Roth IRA then the tax on the contribution has already been paid PRIOR to going into the IRA. Therefore the principle and earnings within the ROTH IRA are eligible for withdrawal Federal Tax Free!

That is correct IF you are 59 1/2 or older before you start pulling the money.  If you pull it earlier than that, taxes will be owed on any interest earned on the principle balance.  Which I guess my previous post needed a little clarification.

A Roth IRA is an Individual Retirement Account to which you contribute after-tax dollars. While there are no current-year tax benefits, your contributions and earnings can grow tax-free, and you can withdraw them tax- and penalty-free after age 59½ and once the account has been open for five years. Other advantages of having a Roth IRA include:

  • No contribution age restrictions. Unlike a Traditional IRA, you don’t have to stop contributing after age 70½, as long as you still have a qualifying earned income.
  • No Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs). There are no mandatory withdrawals, allowing your savings to continue to grow even during retirement.
  • No income taxes for inherited Roth IRAs. If you pass your Roth IRA onto your heirs, their withdrawals will also be income tax-free.

A Roth IRA can be a good savings option for those who expect to be in a higher tax bracket in the future, making tax-free withdrawals even more advantageous. However, there are income limitations to open a Roth IRA, so not everyone will be eligible for this type of retirement account.

A Roth IRA is one of the best investment vehicles for a younger person IF they are willing to pay the tax on the contributions up front. Time and compounded rate of return can make a long term investor VERY wealthy.  It is one of the best things we did early on.

I agree.  I own one myself.

This is the first hour of the three week Corona Virus lock down in the San Francisco Bay Area. Over the years I have learned to simplify most of my vintage matchbook cover listings by using like-kind active listings as templates. Each new listing takes about four minutes including photos. That's figuring 30 seconds for the photos. I shoot about 120 up to 160 photos during each shoot and upload them as a batch using a Canon software tool. Then I list my items in the same order as the photos. This saves a lot of time. In the ten years I have been selling on ebay there have been many hills and valleys. As other people have suggested when you feel burned out it is usually best to take a walk or get out of the house for a while. I like to design and build fantastic BLHT sandwiches. It is also fun to practice making special sauces for cooking. Unless you sell massive quantities of the same item listing will always take up a disproportionate amount of time for your earnings. I do love it when I find something popular to sell and luck into buying multiples at a great discount such as the three Kobe Bryant PSA graded 9.5 trading cards I lucked across in 2006. I am "non-essential" in my profession as a carpenter so the next three weeks or more should be interesting. I have plenty of inventory to search through to decide which fifty items to list.

I'd deal with it a lot better if I could trust eBay to back me up when they are supposed to. It really kills any desire to list new items when eBay hold you down and kicks you in the face while pretending they are doing you a favor.

Yup pretty accurate.  Nothing like a good eBay face kicking...  I might not list new items for 2 months at this rate.
