Is there a supposed search ranking benefit? I know I should know this, but I don't use BO.
I just put my buyer hat on to purchase an item that is 10.88 each if I buy 3. Seller has BO on their listing. No way they accidentally have BO on their listing, as the listing has MQ & is set up for quantity discounts, so this is a seller that has spent a lot of time on the listing & 99% chance put BO on it, intentionally.
Of course since they have BO, I made an offer, making it clear I wanted 3. First offer $10/each. Declined. 2nd offer $10.50/each. Declined. That's only 38 cents difference! Why intentionally have BO if you're going to decline a 38 cent off offer?
I'm genuinely asking, as it seems very odd to me. I mean, why would you even bother having BO? They didn't even counter, declined both. I'm going to go buy the item on a large river, was just hoping to get some insight. I gotta say, as a buyer, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Combined with the weird search results I posted before, I can understand how buyers get turned off 😞
Solved! Go to Best Answer

Hi Rockstar !!
Can you have Best Offer and put in the wrong amount on the sellers side? I have never sold anything through BO so I don't even offer it anymore. I do remember though, entering the wrong amount 1 time years ago. The computer let me sell for 30.00 and take no less than 29.99 lol. It was human error. I meant to put in 24.99. I don't know if Ebay fixed this or not. Maybe message the seller and let them know you are trying to make an offer. Sincerely, Jeanette

I don't have "Best Offer" on any of my items, I removed it last year and don't miss it. But on occasions, I get a message with the following, I give you 50% $ for your item. Which I just answer and say that I am not taking any offers, but thanks.
I can understand your frustration as a buyer. If it didn't workout with this seller, there are many other sellers that will take your money, for the items that they are selling, and might even get a better deal.

One benefit would be that the seller could check the buyer's feedback left and retraction record to determine if they want to do business with that buyer or not.

Why intentionally have BO if you're going to decline a 38 cent off offer?
Not sure, but maybe, just maybe it is so they can check out a buyer's history and block them prior to a sale and before it can turn into a mess - I kind of understand that thinking these days.
In saying that, this seller is doing it wrong, because looking at your history I would have thought they would then accept the offer, what would be the point otherwise - who knows?

Update, I'm starting to think this seller is confused after all. I took a nap & woke up & see that I have an offer. It's not sent as a reply to either of MY offers. It's an offer that they sent to me b/c I was a watcher on the item. But it IS from the same seller.
Offer price 10.99.
My price if I just buy them off his listing. 10.88, since I'd be buying 3.
Granted, he didn't know he was sending an offer to the person who'd sent him 2 offers. So, I think it's probably what Glgenterprise said & he's willing to discount 1, but not 3. I may write him, as it's ridiculous for him to discount me LESS than the discount I'd already get for buying 3. He's confused though.

I know, right? No communication with some sellers. You'd think they'd at least counter-offer. But at the same time eBay is a sad thing due to the extreme fees and all, so hard to blame the sellers too. It's almost not worthwhile to be a small seller or to sell small things. This is why more and more it is a throw away world. Money sucks.
