The buyer bid on my listing and won but failed to pay for it. I have since resisted the item but I would like to delete the sold listing that was not completed. I'm going to "sold" and checking the item's box and clicking on "delete" but it is being deleted and remains on my list as a sold item. Any thoughts as to why it still remains and what I need to do to get it deleted?

You need to cancel it by selecting the buyer didn’t pay. Then it will drop out of items awaiting payment.

This will also give the deadbeat a Strike and thousands of sellers who have set their Buyer Requirements/ Seller Preferences to Block such deadbeats will thank you.
And if any fees are due from the transaction they will be cancelled and refunded to you at the same time.

96 hours and one second (or more) past the listing's end, you need to cancel the order, citing 'Buyer didn't pay'.
Note, with that ^^ action, eBay will ask you if you want to relist the item... don't select that since you already relisted.

The OP is saying that the listing is still showing in "SOLD" listings. I think if you go to myebaySelling and then SOLD listing you can delete it that way. Maybe someone else has a better idea.

If all else fails as I have had this before as well simply revise the listing by a creating another item in its place or by entering 0 in the qty for sale that way even if it does show up active no one can buy it due to not inventory available...or revise it and delete everything inside the listing.

You can't delete it from your sold items.
Even though the buyer didn't pay and you canceled the order, the item still sold and will remain in your sold items.

Best offers attract sport bidders, who just use ebay as a playground to make the sellers day difficult. You might just consider not using that feature. It attracts scammers and dead beats just like auction listings do.
Sorry for your experience. Happy and Better sales.

Click on the blue arrow next to the sold item and scroll all the way down and archive the listing.
