Okay, so this is my very first time using ebay to sell. I've always only ever bought stuff before. So the buyer and I have been in conversation he's interested in. I put "local pickup". However, he's within the same state but he's in a different city (I'm in LA, he's in the bay area), so I have to ship. However, even before I could change the shipping to actual shipping, he already bought the item and ebay says "you can't print shipping label due to local pickup" something along the lines of that.
So my question is, how do I even get the buyer's information now, because I can't see anything at all
Second, WHAT THE HELL IS NET PROCEEDS!???? I posted something for $580, and it says after net proceeds, total fees -$81.67? So I'm only getting paid around $500!?????
And second, how does payment even work?? It says "Funds from this sale will be on hold until we can confirm the buyer has picked up the item. Scan the buyer’s QR code when they collect the item to receive funds within the next day. Without the QR code confirmation, the hold will remain in place for 10 days."
What are they talking about QR code? And where this payment even go, I can't even see where I can transfer the payment, etc.
I asked the buyer about shipping, and he said we can do venmo after I take a picture of the shipping costs which wasn't that much, it came out to $18.40 which is a lot lower than I thought considering the item weighs up to 10 pounds, 19 inches-22 inches (width), 8-9 inches length, and 7.5-10 inches height max, so to have more space to be safe its 22 (width) x 9 inches (length) x 10 inches (height), I'm mailing from Los Angeles to around San Francisco area.
Someone please help, I can't even ship until like Thursday because I have a test coming up for my school tomorrow. How long do I get to ship?

Omg ok.
Here are your best options.
1) Tell buyer you want to cancel transaction, relist it with shipping, and have him agree. You cancel it based on "buyer request" (once he agrees). You relist it with proper shipping. Sell it to this buyer again. And ship it.
That is the proper and safest way for you and your buyer to handle this. Venmo and shipping a local pick up are NOT GOOD IDEAS. Especially cuz ur a new seller -- ur likely to make a mistake and get scammed.
2) yes. You paid $81 or whatever in fees. Welcome to ebay. Read the fees before you list. That way you know what to expect. You don't get paid the sale price. You get paid sale price minus fees.
3) once you complete the transaction and buyer has item, you get paid. You cant transfer money, its on hold. Ebay doesnt trust you yet. They want to know buyer got what they paid for.
4) QR code. Local pick up. Buyer shows up. Shows you a QR code. You scan that QR code on your phone. Proves to ebay you 2 met up and exchanged the item. It protects you and buyer.
Any more questions?

Yeah the cancel part I got, I did some research
2nd, venmo is only for SHIPPING, not the actual item
3rd I did look at the fees, it's still quite high
4th, once the buyer gets the item, where does the item go since I didn't put any of my card information of where to transfer the money to. I dont want it to go somewhere random where I lose it, There's no option that allows you to choose where to send or transfer the money to or does it stay in ebay, and then when the buyer confirms, it gives me an option to add a card information, etc
5th I understand the QR code part
and I dont like ebay but it doesnt have a phone number or customer service which is why I usually sell locally or buy off Amazon which I prefer over ebay. Let alone the cancel/return process is extremely complicating too. It takes days

You listed your item as pickup only and eBay expects it to be pickup only.
Having the buyer pay for shipping through venmo is against eBay policy and could be interpreted as fee avoidance and get you suspended from eBay.
The safest course is to cancel and relist properly with shipping charges.
All that aside ...
All your other questions indicate you have no idea how eBay works. You really, really, really need to spend time reading and understanding how eBay works.
For instance, I hope you do understand that eBay is not free and for a $600 transaction, you will be paying eBay about $80 in fees.

1) good.
2) YA. I GOT THAT. Still not a good idea. Like I said. Venmo payments are not protected by ebay, no matter what they are for, and shipping an item that was listed as local pick up is a bad idea. Both subvert EBay policy and void some buyer/seller protections
3) Sticker shock is real. BTW your fees are a percentage charged on both sale price and sales tax. Plus 30 cents for transaction. They may be high but they are correct.
4) Welcome to the managed payments system. Link up your bank account. It will pay out there. No cards no paypal no etc. Need bank account linked.
5) good. You're in school, I assume you're young, glad you get the QR codes.
Return process is EASY. Yes it takes "days". Take it or leave it. Don't know what to tell you. Sorry Ebay isn't Amazon.

Yeam I'm 30 lol, so not that young.....
When you say link your bank account, where exactly? or is that after buyer confirms, that gives me the option
if return takes days, would that mean the the buyer wasn't charged anything yet? And, if I cancel this post, does that mean I can't post anything until after waiting for the refund to go back to the buyer and everything is settled?
I don't understand why the buyer even bought it when I told him I was changing the shipping information, then all of a sudden he buys it right away. I told him to wait too till Thursday since I had a test coming up tomorrow

You're a millenial, so am I.
Many buyers/sellers on here are senior citizens... that's why I said young.
Account settings for linking bank account. Look under Selling Preferences I think? It will be under "Managed Payments" I believe.
Buyers are stupid, sorry, they don't often follow simple instructions. They assume you can do things that you can't, lile invoice them for shipping or additional charges, which...you can't.
Cancelling will automatically process your buyers refund. No settling necessary.
Returns are not the same as cancellations. This isnt a return, its a cancellation
Returns are a different issue all together, if you have questions about return policies, ill answer those, but i dont want to confuse this situation, because this situation does not involve returns.

another thing is how do I cancel order?
08-23-2022 01:08 PM
Once your buyer agrees to the cancellation (explain you will cancel, relist with shipping, resell to this person). Go to your sold items, click the item you sold, and click "cancel this order". You should be able to find it pretty quick but if you need more help just ask.

Correct.
But since eBay charges a fee on the shipping amount as well as the item price, using Venmo for part of the transaction means that eBay does not collect their full fee.
You may be fine with that, but it is against eBay policy and eBay considers it to be fee avoidance (which is the polite term eBay uses instead of "theft of services")
3rd I did look at the fees, it's still quite high
You would not have been surprised that you were only getting $500 from a $580 sale if you had looked at the fees and knew they were about $80.
There's no option that allows you to choose where to send or transfer the money to
You just lectured me not to tell you how eBay works. If you really knew how eBay works, you would know where eBay sends the money - because there is only one option.

ROTFL.
Again, you just told me:
"Yeah DON'T TELL ME HOW EBAY WORKS".
So I will respect your wishes and not tell you.

just work on your communication lol, it comes off as rude and direct. It's all I'm saying

Use the drop-down menu to the left of the order to Cancel, citing problem with buyer's address. The refund from that order will wash from the Pending funds in your Payout... all but the $.30 Transaction Fee. (You need to have a payment method on file for that.)
And in answer to your question, "And second, how does payment even work??" ...you'll need to sign up for Managed Payments to receive your funds at all through eBay. (If you don't sign up, they'll eventually be sent to your state's Unclaimed Property Dept.) Also, as a new seller, know that there will be a Hold placed on your Payout. >> Payments on hold | eBay
Good luck to you here.

DO NOT DO THIS. This is a violation of EBay policies. Communicate with your buyer. You already told him initially to allow you to update shipping before he purchased. He didn't do that. Tell him you are cancelling, relisting with shipping, and allowing him to purchase the item.
Once he agrees to this, you are fully in your right to CANCEL BECAUSE "BUYER REQUEST". That will be within EBay's policies.
OFTEN people suggest CANCELLING due to problem with BUYERS ADDRESS, but time and time again, it has been stated that this is AGAINST EBAY POLICIES and if reported, will NOT SERVE YOU WELL..
