A couple months back I had some similar results. I thought it was very strange, as our sales usually were around the same average. Every time we had a very good day, the next 1-2 days were very low.
This has normalized recently for us.
One thing I can suggest is try to make sure you have been added to the new eBay catalog. That definitely has helped "smooth out" our exposure/sales, where it seemed very hit or miss before. It has become much more consistent since being added to the catalog.
Good luck!

Can you elaborate on this.
I put electronics in the catalog when they are in there. often what I am listing isn't in there.
I notice they catalogified a lot of my listings. Are there some they screwed up I should be checking? How do I check?

One way you could test finding your listings is instead of using best match, sort by price. This will tell you if items are not showing up.
If you find some that are not, you can post them here. There's been a lot of people denying any problems lately - I'm not sure their motive but we have experienced it personally. So I do believe you, and it would be good if others can confirm the issues.
Regarding the new catalog, if you hit the "Group Similar Listing" button on the top right of search, it will basically combine listings of similar items. Something like how Amazon works.
If you are not entered in the new catalog, your item will not appear in group similar. Not the base listing itself, nor would your items be added to any of the "grouped" listings. Just gone.
That was our items for most of this year. If we searched our items, we could be #1 sales rank in search. But once you hit group similar, our items vanished.
We just got added last week, after trying to have them add us for months, and it definitely makes everything a bit smoother.

Ok maybe help me with this example.
I have a beverage air commercial cooler / freezer for sale. If I search for it and sort for nearest first it comes right up. depending on my search keywords it comes up in search for me at least.
It shows up when I group similar listings as well.
Do you think this means I have been added?

As soon as I come here and complain I sell $200 door panels and $200 in press ink.
It seems like every time I come here and ___ and moan I get some sales. I will however not venture into the land of conspiracy theories and just be thankful and hope it continues long enough for me to make my mortgage payments.
Yesterday I almost had the first day I didn't sell anything in 5 years. Someone bought something at the 11th hour.
