This is so frustrating cause it has happened several times. These people simply don't read the listing that says "local pick up only"! And so some new ebay guy (first day on ebay) that lives in AL bought my item here in PA, and paid for it. So now...what do I do? It was listed for $30, so with tax he wound up paying around $32. Then, however, with ebay taking their amount out I'm only receiving $25.63. So what do I send back to him? He deserves his entire amount back, but what about my ebay fees? I looked at "canceling the order" but the only reason given to do so is "problem with shipping address", "buyer requested canceling", or "item is damaged or out of stock". None apply. Suggestions? Do I need to contact ebay?

Cancel the order as a problem with the buyers address.
The buyer will be refunded, you'll get your fee's back, all but the $0.30.

Cancel using "buyer requested" - your eBay fees will be credited in full except for the non-refundable 30 cent transaction fee.

Has the buyer asked for his money back?

Refund in full as "problem with address"
you will get all fees returned except .30

Thanks so much for the replies! Regarding lucky's question...no....has not asked for anything. I've found with some of these guys there is no communication forthcoming. Weird how most of the time when this sort of thing happens it's always some completely new buyer with no prior history of purchases. Guess I'll go with "problem with address" since that's actually the case!!

The only way to help solve this in the future is either stop selling local pickup items or start your listing title with "LOCAL PICKUP ONLY" and blow the same up by several font sizes as first line of the item description. Even then you have to hope they can read.

I chose the "problem with buyer's address" to cancel the order. Now, however, I see that the seller was not refunded his full amount. That doesn't seem right. The list price was $30, and with the tax he paid a bit over $32. The refunded amount, though, was only $25.93. Why doesn't the buyer get his full amount returned?

This is becoming a weird situation in that the buyer has now sent me 3 additional emails - all today. One indicates that he's trying to send me his email address and phone number. Another affirms that he bought the heater (and so for a second time included his address). Yet another asks whether or not he should repay? This might be in response to my telling him that I will be relisting the item and sending him a refund. So I responded trying to clarify what "local pickup only" means since I'm not sure he fully understands. I don't know what else to do. Is all this legit or is there a bit of trolling going on here?

OK...I think all is as it should be. Detail of the cancellation order is as follows. So I assume eBay paid the seller the balance (final value fee) so that he got his $30 refunded - everything except the tax that he also paid. (?)
Purchase price | $30.00 |
Fee creditsHide details | -$4.07 |
Final Value FeeVariable percentage | $4.07 |
Jan 4 | Paid from bank account ending in 9369 | -$0.30 |
