I sold a comic on May 30th. Today 8 days later I noticed they charged me an ad fee. The sale showed up in my traffic as organic and on the listing did not have a "sold via promoted listing". What I am concerned about is eBay arbitrarily going back and charging promoted fees on organic listings. How do we even know who to believe at this point? I've had them charge ad fees in the past a couple days later but never over a week later. Has anyone else had issues like this? We have to trust eBay to tell us if the items sold organic or promoted. I don't want to have to wait over a week to be charged fees on something I thought was sold organically.

That's normal. Because of the halo effect especially, there's really no way to verify, you just have to trust eBay or not use Promoted Listings at all. For what it's worth, many of our Promoted Listings do sell organically and without being charged the ad fee (even after a week or so), so it does happen.

The above statement is exactly why we no longer sell here...

No 72 hours would have been normal. Not 8 Days later. Some items I wouldn't even sell after eBay takes their final value fee and promoted fee. After 8 Days the item is long gone and shipped to the buyer. It does not take code 8 days to figure out if it was sold promoted. This is another money grab from eBay.... It's getting pathetic at this point.

I just had this happen.
Sold an item, packaged it up.
When I returned to my desk, there was a new "Sold via Promoted Listings" designation and a fee had been added to Order Details.
Reading the prior posts, I guess this is a thing.

If a person engaged with your promoted listing prior to the end of the promotion and subsequently purchased the item, you may still incur the advertising fee.

They charged me an ad for 8 days later after telling me my items sold organically. This proves that eBay arbitrarily decides for themselves what sold organically or promoted. There is no transparency it's up to eBay. That's a major problem as they have been proven not to be honest. This will be my last year on eBay.

...You didn't read this thread, then, did you? It's a known phenomenon, it's not a lack of "transparency", it's just how things work. If you choose to leave eBay, I doubt anyone will mind, though.

I do understand that there should be a short lag time for the computer program to run after a sale is made.
I don't know if it proves anything, but eight days does seem excessive.

I don't disagree, though I wonder if there's something else going on we're not aware of that causes exactly 8 days to go by, since several people have mentioned that.

Nope 8 days isn't normal. Since the changes to promoted listings 99% of all my sales is promoted even though every day my organic views are much higher.
