Warning for sellers - check your dashboard

You might be getting undeserved shipping dings and unless you call ebay, they remain on your account.

In the last several weeks, on my "Your late shipment report" I've been getting dings that show as "tracking indicates late delivery."

After calling yesterday, I was told that since it's showing late delivery, that's post office responsibility and out of my control. According to the person I spoke to, I needn't worry; it doesn't affect my account and she refused to remove the dings.

Well today, my dashboard showed that my TRS status is at risk for late shipments because there were two more "late delivery" dings. But when I went to leave feedback for my buyers, it showed as ALL items were delivered BEFORE the estimated delivery date.

I called again today, pointing this out and was told that the dings WILL be removed in 24-48 hours.

But had I not called, those unwarranted dings would have remained and put my status at risk.

KEEP TRACK OF YOUR SELLER DASHBOARD!

The following are examples of what I was seeing and for which I was dinged. All the items were delivered before the estimates!

Hi @albertabrightalberta, I've reviewed the shipping defects you are referencing and I think that there may have been a misunderstanding. When reviewing the Late Shipment Report, the most recent three were shipped late and they arrived late. There would be no reason to remove these from your account. As for the two prior to that, these were related to a recent error that we have resolved and automatic protections will be applied for those impacted.

Keeping an eye on your Seller Dashboard is a great habit to get into, and I want to help you get the most out of this report. I recommend using the Download Report option to review the specific details of each recorded miss and comparing this to the tracking information on the shipping website to confirm a descrepancy. If you have questions or concerns, you are of course welcome to contact our Customer Service teams via phone, as well as Facebook or Twitter. Discussing these concerns via our Social Media channels may save you valuable time that you can use to run other portions of your business.

@Anonymous

That isn't correct. There was NO MAIL service on March 13 because the governor had issued a travel advisory and the postal carrier didn't work that day. I also though ebay didn't ding sellers for weather-related delays:

A blizzard has been confirmed in Boston | Boston.com

This was also on USPS's website and applies to the same 3 items you're referring to.

Hi @albertabrightalberta, thank you for clarifying - initially there I didn't see any mention of a weather event as a factor in these delays. As you may know, eBay does offer protection anytime there is an event like this that delays delivery and while for certain widespread events we will provide automatic protections, this is something that you would need to contact customer service about as needed.

With this added context in mind, I think it is a great reminder for sellers to contact Customer Service when there is a natural disaster, weather event, postal strike or other service disruption that delayed delivery for your shipments. As long as we can confirm the event affected your transaction, we can ensure you are protected. I do want to clarify, however, that we are generally unable to remove any tracking uploaded on time and validated misses, but can remove late shipment defects. If tracking uploaded and validated misses related to events like the ones we have discussed cause a loss of Top Rated Status, we can manually adjust your seller rating once we are contacted.

@Anonymous  Hi Trinton, it appears the bug flagging shipments as late when they aren't has reappeared.

Ugh! I tried to post a screenshot from USPS's website posted on March 13 where there was a red banner warning of postal delays. It stated:

ALERT: DUE TO WINTER STORM SKYLAR, USPS POSTAL SERVICES ARE IMPACTED IN THE NORTHEAST AREA. READ MORE>

This post was from March 14. But on March 13, the post included all of eastern Mass, RI, Connecticut and since I'm in Greater Boston, we had no mail service.

Yet ebay holds that against us.

My city is among those on the following list.

I got a ding too when we had a storm and they called all carriers in before routes were finished.

This storm wasn't even on the USPS site as it was a local PO decision.

I called and it was totally removed.

Thank you @Anonymous. When I posted, I didn't mention the weather since the delivery dates preceded ebay's estimates.

But I did mention "weather" to customer service both yesterday and today.

But when you commented on my late shipment, that's when I posted the link to the shutdown notifications.

I'll assume that the rep I spoke to today will indeed remove those defects now that you've confirmed that the "delays" were valid.

Thank you.

Hi @albertabrightalberta, definitely going to make sure that the right steps are taken in this situation and that appropriate coaching is provided to those you spoke with. When weather is a factor, we should be checking for reports for you and taking action as needed to protect your account. I'll be sure to update you once I have hear back on having this looked into!

Thanks so much for your post. I haven't been checking my dashboard for late shipments (my fault). I had 4 late shipments. Unfortunately, 3 of them were over 90 days old and are no longer able to be removed.  The one that she will remove is a NY shipment that the Post Office cannot deliver due to the weather.

I am definitely going to keep an eye on it from now on. Sad that we are not notified once a ding is put on our account. We seem to be notified about all buyer issues.

Hi @Anonymous -- I just thought I'd update.

It's been over 48 hours since I spoke to the second customer service person (and 72 hours from my first call the previous day) and my account still hasn't been adjusted.

I have another suggestion that if implemented could be helpful to both ebay reps and sellers.

If seller dashboards had a form and link where sellers could appeal directly from the dashboard, it would save phone calls and make it easier all around. Sellers could appeal those types of dings and in doing it that way, we could include links to USPS announcements or weather-related news stories to prove our cases.
