Waiting Five Days After Reporting A Bidder Who Is Not Paying

Why should we have to wait that long to close our transaction out, and receive a fee back. When it is clear these people are doing this to ruin a sale. If they have not contacted, and paid with in two days than it is clear they have no intention of paying. Why waste time on them, and just close it out. Especially in times like this when family is meeting for the holidays, and you need extra cash.  Ebay should change their policy to were people can not bid on auctions unless they have at least two items they bought on their profile. I'm tired of letting these people get away with this. Blocking does nothing they find a way to make another account. Pretty sad they don't have anything better to do in life.

Definitely not clear to me, I don't get many non-payers but when I do open an unpaid item claim most do pay and I don't open claims unless at least a week has gone by.

If it's so clear to you that they will not be paying then there is no need for you to wait, just go ahead and relist.

If you have a big problem with non-payers then just use Immediate Payment Required and they will no longer be an issue.

@thedragonshoppe102   There is always going to be issues like this ... on items with immediate payment you will get the requests to cancel ... the downside with that today is Sellers get stuck with the PayPal fees ... 2.9% on every US cancellation.

I've had 2 this month that went the distance ... ironically, BOTH were (4) FB count Buyers ...

I messaged one right before I closed the claim letting them know some of the rules ... like getting unpaid item strikes..  But these are not high volume Buyers so I am sure they could care less.  The other one I messaged and let them know that the unpaid claim times out that day... they messaged back and said to take them off the list (translation - not interested so please cancel) ... I let them know that as soon as the unpaid claim ends they will be off the hook to pay ... didn't bother mentioning anything else as I doubt they would care.

We don't get a lot of unpaid items but it seems 4th quarter this year there have been more then usual ...

They really do need to shorten the window for unpaid items. It is ridiculous we have to wait so long.

I give my buyers four weeks to pay.

95% pay immediately, 4% take 1-7 days, and 1% take more than a week.

I have had one non-payer in the last two years.

If they do pay what are you going to do if you’ve already sold it to someone else? And unresolved Item Not Received claim will put a defect on your account. That can lead to higher fees and loss of selling privileges.

I wonder if the Internet Sales Tax has anything to do with that?

Buyers startled that their cost is the same as they would pay at the mall or possibly even higher.

Does anyone actually like to pay taxes?

Even those sensible enough to understand that taxes are what pays for schools and fire departments and roads and food inspection and and and and.

That might be true for commodities but not collectibles ...

As to liking paying taxes ... I have a bone to pick with charging tax on used collectibles where tax was levied on the item the first time it was sold (unless in the 5 states that have no sales tax) ... so charging it again is double dipping ... some argue that the tax is on the transaction not the item ... I give those folks a big "DUH?!?  Without the item being sold there IS NO TRANSACTION ... "

As I said, virtually all my buyers pay.

So if my choice is between

(a) waiting 6 days and not getting paid;  or

(b) waiting a few additonal days and getting paid;

I'll wait the extra couple days for that 1 buyer in 100 who was out of town, in the hospital, or had a power outtage when the auction ended or the combined invoice arrived.

And here I thought I was generous giving people 19 days.

It takes a lot of patience to wait 1 whole month.

I've noticed that generally after 2 weeks....they have no intention of ever paying. Although I do remember one buyer who paid in the last hour of day 19...that was sweet.

I'm so old school that when I was a bank teller one of our jobs was to make up the pay packets for the Goodyear plant-- in cash.  (1963-1973)

The reason I find waiting a month for payment foolish is that any buyer who can afford a computer (or even a phone) to buy online is probably credit worthy enough to have a credit card.

And use the card to back their Paypal account.

I'm paid immediately.

The customer gets their Thing quickly.

The card gets paid at leisure. (with interest of course)

I'm not a bank.

My whole point is that I have never actually had to wait a month.

But once in a great while I do have wait a week or 10 days.

Which is not that much longer than the 6 days it takes to not make a sale with a UID.

I don’t micromanage my sales that closely. It doesn’t really take patience. They will either pay or not. I have a timeline setup and follow it. It’s a business transaction with a stranger.

Most school, fire, and police are already paid for by our property taxes.
People don't seem to remember that we had a revolution long ago... about taxes. Everywhere you turn, another tax is being added. Guess it is time for another revolution!
