Voided Shipping Label Fiasco

I just sold my first item on eBay and when going to print the shipping label, I failed to realize I could edit the weight before paying for and printing the label.

I get to the post office and have it weighed and I’ve got a 6.5 pound package and a 3.5 pound shipping label. The associate had already scanned the package in and then after discussing it with him for a few minutes, decided I would print a new label with the correct weight and dimensions input. This is where the fun begins.

So I go home, print the new label with the correct dimensions, go back to the post office and ship the package with the correct label on it.

I’m not concerned about the shipping label refund, my concern is this: that EBay now has two tracking numbers for one package and even though the first one was canceled out, it had been scanned in prior to it being cancelled.

I can’t remove the initial tracking number. When I track the initial number on usps website it tells me it was returned to sender and no such number exists. The new tracking number shows in transit as norma. lHowever, eBay’s app shows the package as ‘in transit’ so I’m concerned that since that package can’t be delivered (I cancelled it and have the label) , I won’t be able to get paid by EBay even though the actual item with the secondary tracking number will get delivered.

Help?

To clarify, I did request a void on the first label but since they scanned it in and then canceled it, I doubt usps will ever consider that tracking number to be voided.

So essentially the concern is that eBay won’t be able to verify delivery of the item (and therefore won’t be able to release the funds to me) because the eBay bot still sees one of the two tracking numbers reflected on their system as in transit, even though the package that tracking number is for never shipped and according to usps website was returned to sender.

Congatrez on your first sale @thoatw-9563 .

1. As you are a new seller in eBay, you must wait to get paid until eBay say so. There will be a date as to when your funds will be released. Check the date. May be it will show as one month.

2. If you could upload the second tracking number (the correct number), and in case it delivered quickly than expected, the fund release might be done some days before than the date the eBay has told you. For an example, if the release date showed 03rd March 2022, it might have a chance where it will show 27th February 2022 if you uploaded the correct tracking number.

What I am saying is, just leave this one for now. Let eBay release the payment as per the date mentioned now. You have learned something. So from the next order, upload the correct one and continue. ^^

You will probably be okay...I have "cancelled labels" and had 2 tracking numbers and got paid.    Also, just so you know...EBAY pays you when "item is shipped" and not when it is delivered.

Because you are a "new seller" your payment will be held for 30 days.   After you become a seasoned seller you can expect payment 3-5 AFTER you ship item.

in my experiences, as long as both numbers are related to the same order, Either one that get Delivered will be credited....I have NOT had the same time-line/circumstances you have, but I have used 2 labels in one shipment...once the 'active' tracking was delivered, it satisfied the ebay requirement

(in one case, we just put more postage on it manually at the Post Office from the original label but that is the exception...we were surprised it made it through the system to it's destination)

I've done the same thing a few times, either because I mismeasured the package like you did or because the buyer bought a second item after I already printed the shipping label and I combined shipping. I just add the new shipping label tracking number to the sale. I always got paid on time. Ebay has never dinged me for a late shipment or item not arriving on time when I've had to use a second shipping label. I also message my buyers to let them know that their entire order will come in a single box and I give them the correct tracking number in the message. I don't know if it matters to them but I figured I'd at least try to let them know what's going on if it looks weird on their end.

I've had a couple of shipments that never updated with the green circle on the "Sold" page. As I said, that hasn't affected my metrics, customer satisfaction, payment, or anything that matters. Good luck.

This all sounds promising, I think my worry is that even though there are two tracking numbers and one will get delivered, the other one will appear to be in limbo as usps won’t void the first label since it was scanned (they scanned it, then we realized the issue, at which point they canceled it) and therefore because eBay’s tracking system says ‘in transit’ for the first tracking number that was cancelled after being scanned I feel like they may not consider the item delivered. (Even though it would be delivered by the second tracking number)

It’s a really unique situation, I just hope it goes smoothly at this point 🤞

It should. I've had this happen in the past. As long as one of the two tracking numbers shows activity and eventually a Delivered status, you should be fine.
