Violating rules by putting “1996 HOT WHEELS.COM SPECIAL EDITION BUS” in caption

Received the following message from eBay today, March 18, 2025:  “Hello! Your listing didn’t follow our Offering to buy or sell outside of eBay policy.  Offering to buy or sell outside of eBay, including sharing direct contact information prior to an eBay purchase, is not allowed."  (finally got in touch with eBay, and the representative indicated the problem was that I had put a direct contact address in my listing (THAT, OF COURSE, BEING THE  “HOT WHEELS .COM”  IN MY CAPTION).  I asked to speak to the the President of eBay, or someone in charge; but the representative explained to me that one of their “guru’s” policed this listing, and turned it over to the proper eBay authorities for corrective measures--not their exact words, but my interpretation.  Anyway, I explained that the item for sale was a HOT WHEELS.COM VW BUS---and this was NOT a contact website.  Well, to end this story; it is supposed to be put back on my FOR SALE LISTINGS sometime tomorrow--missed all day today, tonight....and whatever time they ALLOW it to be reinstated “For Sale”.  In the meantime, I looked through other similar listings and found no less than a half-dozen HOTWHEELS.COM  Drag Busses for sale.  After 25 years selling on eBay, this incident has surely been a shocker!!  I feel the need for a little stronger language, but I’ll leave it at that!!

Thanks for your input.  I really don’t expect ANYTHING from eBay.  Hey, “love it or leave it”. I don’t plan to do either one right now, as it is a useful tool to move my wares. Just needed to vent---great site here!! Hope they don’t decide to remove it!  Sure, it’s so easy to remove the DOT.COM(which I already have done); but that doesn’t make it right.  Sometimes it just feels good to GET IT OUT!!

And the great Yogi Berra said, “Baseball is 90% mental.  The other HALF is physical”!

And I say, "Hey, everybody...have a great day, and a wonderful 202"!!

That was a joke, of course! It made me laugh inside when I said it...and I felt better!  Actually, I felt I was lucky...or maybe unlucky, to actually speak to someone at eBay.

Well that isn't the way your post read.  It appeared you clearly thought they would connect you with the President of the company.  Which Customer service likely doesn't even have his phone number.

"Hope they don’t decide to remove it!"  What kind of comment is this?  Why would a company close this site down as it is profitable for them.  Which is the reason that corporations exist.  To make money.

Sure it is the correct thing to do.  If we all could advertise / state other websites on our listing, it will drive sales to those sites sure, but away from Ebay.  Likely the reason Ebay doesn't jump at the chance to allow this to happen on the site.  It is a good business decision for Ebay.

As to the other listings you see active.  Some of the smarter sellers removed the period between wheels and Com.  The others are in violation of the policy, you can go and report those listings if you like.  Ebay does not catch all the listings in violation of one rule or another.  On any given day there is more than two Billion active listings.  It is a lot to monitor.  But again you can report those listings if you want.  If you are unsure how, just ask.

Just to make sure we understand what your listing's title was supposed to convey -was this a model of Hotwheels that was only available via dot com, not on store shelves, and that makes it uniquely desirable to collectors?

If I have that right .... what about saying 'Hotwheels Web Exclusive' in the title?  Would that get the same message across?  I realize it's sacrificing more characters, but maybe it would be worth it to eliminate or abbreviate some of the other words?

The president just may have been out golfing and unable to take your call.

ROTFL.

Yes it is a shocker that you are so infuriated by something as trivial as dropping the ".com" from your listing.
