VARIATION SET UP

HI

I'm hoping someone out there can help me.  I'm a Private User but want to sell similar items with variations.  My draft is telling me I can't use this method.  I would like to know why as I see several others doing similar things.  Is it because I am a Private User or do Ebay vet the photographs I have put on.  These are temporary pictures which I will be changing  when I see my Multi-version sales page running.  Many thanks

Some categories don't allow variations, and if you're doing Sell Similar from one of your own listings or someone else's sometimes it can block it erroneously.  What are you trying to list with variations?

They do not 'vet' test pictures....

You can not use "Sell Similar" to create a variation listing.....

You need to be in the correct category (down to the "sub-category") that allows variations...

@luckylyndaanne

First thing: variations are not supported on the app. Make sure you're using the website. Variations are not supported for auction format listings; make sure you're using fixed price.

By default the variation setting is hidden on the listing form. Once you unhide the setting it will stick for future listings.

On the top right of the page click the settings menu (3 vertical dots) and toggle the variations slider if it's not already on.

Make sure you're working off a new listing, not a relist or sell similar from a listing without variations.

Beyond that it comes down to category; not every category supports variations.

If the category supports variations you'll find them in a non-intuitive, awkward placement on the listing form - below item specifics instead of above them. Make sure you set up variations before you fill out any of the IS.

I'm trying to sell quite a large quantity of Vintage ribbons I have.  You may have given me the answer I was looking for.  Ebay probably block things.  I also make silk goods which is very different.  I'll do a test and see if they chuck me off for that.  Thank you very much.

Thanks for quick reply.  I was on my computer and I also spoke to Ebay who said the Variations weren't offered on my products but then I see others who do use for similar.  They gave me a link but that didn't help.  I'll try another category and look into the info you've sent.  Oh how I just want to live a happy life without all this messing with my head.   Happy days!!  Thanks again and good luck your end too

It probably has to do with the category you've chosen for those ribbons, yeah.  I'm not familiar with the available appropriate categories and which ones offer variations, but you can test it  by just creating new listings (don't publish multiple, just drafts), and seeing if it lets you do that.  Just don't list it in the wrong category to try and get that feature, that can either get you in trouble or at least limit your visibility to the wrong set of customers. It'd be far better to have to create different listings for each color but have your potential customers actually see it than to list it with variations but in the wrong category.

Hi, You're on ebay.com, which is the US site. You'll get better responses if you go to

https://community.ebay.co.uk/

There are key differences between policies in the US vs the UK. For instance, in the US we do not have "Private" sellers.  And the list of categories in which the variations format can be used might be different. Also, to start a listing in the variations format (in the US at least) you have to start with a fresh blank listing form, not a relist or "sell similar," and sometimes it doesn't work on a phone or other gadget; you have to use an actual computer to access all the listing options.
