Using // in item title

I just noticed when I try to list an item with “//“ in the title to indicate a group with missing items the backslashes disappear when I list. Any advice?

"Any advice?"

Don't use //. Seriously, why would you? That is not going to mean anything to a prospective buyer, and the title space you are given is very valuable real estate.

Symbols are not searchable and use up/waste valuable characters in a title - we do not use them for that reason.

If critical to denote, and doubt it is, likely better suited for a Description Box vs in the Title.

I don't understand why you would want to put // in the title. No buyer would ever search for //

I never put any symbols in my titles, no commas, periods etc.... just key words only

@sierra35,

You're not supposed to use symbols or special characters in a listing title or description. That's eBay policy.

In this particular case, slashes are used in URLs for specific purposes, to define domains and subdomains. The title can be part of the URL, so using slashes in the title could mess up the URL.

In stamp collecting // is used to indicate a range of stamps is missing items. I do get now how it can mess up the url. This is the first time it’s happened, had no issues prior.

Look at the URL for this thread. The double-slash characters are left out of the URL.
