I still don't understand the logic of ebay with this. A buyer bought an underwear shaper (a thong no less) and waited until the 29th day to file a return as doesn't fit. I received the item back... smelling like sweat and perfume. Reddish stains on the underwear that I don't want to guess what it is. It's also missing all of it's bra straps (1 pair of clear, and 1 pair of black).
I took photos and was about to file the usual 50% retention and throw the underwear away. But I had to call ebay for something else today, so I might as well mention this one and ask what their logic was in this case with only keeping 50%.
Basically the buyer was able to get a shaper rental for a month, and keep 2 pairs of bra straps for half the price of the shaper itself. The agent pushed me to a specialist and he just said that I'm allowed to keep half of the payment. Gee, that'll show 'em huh. I told him that I hope no one buys a $1000 iphone and returns a brick just to get the phone for $500. He says that's entirely different because the buyer returned the correct item to me. I said it might as well be a different item.
Is ebay suggesting I sell this month long used reddish stained thong shaper underwear that's missing it's straps for 50% off???

I don;t get bothered by it. I was simply responding to what seemed like a sarcastic comment questioning my use of "he".
Not to belabor what is a silly argument, but "they" is plural. If you are referring to an individual you would have to use "it". Myself, to sometimes aggravate my politically correct acquaintances, I use "hesh" or "shemale".

eBay Podcast episode 63 snippet from transcript:
We recently had a policy update related to altered items and faulty returns. Beginning October 1st the option to issue a partial refund for faulty or altered items was extended to Top Rated sellers. ...... Partial refund protections were previously only for listings that offered free returns. Sellers are concerned about having to accept returns for items that cannot be resold, like used cosmetics and undergarments. What do you think Griff?
Well it's hard to use myself as an example, the only cosmetics I sell are colognes and my return rates are really low, but it will happen. That's the business you're going to be in. You have to build it into your business numbers so that you're mitigating the cost of accepting those returns. I guess you have to throw them away mostly. Right? Or donate them.
You could donate them. Yeah, give back. Give back to the community.
Please don't give gross undergarments back to my community, bigdeals. 🤢

We've discussed this or similar situation on many threads. By now you should be well aware of how Ebay is processing returns and it is just ridiculous. It is a no fault system right now with seller getting the short end of the stick. The ability to lose only 50% instead of 100% is suppose to make us feel better.
They have said a few times that they are working on the inequities of the current Simplified return system started in October 2018. But we are a year into this and they have done NOTHING to improve this system. But they say they are looking into it. Really???
I do like the new Seller Protections that started October 1st for TRS members. It is a start and I do like them. But they do not go far enough and there is so much room for improvement.

I had a buyer refill the contents of a new/sealed essential oil after 30 days and send it back in a sanitary napkin-unused but still. This buyer is gross, disgusting, inconsiderate and completely classless. I'd be tempted to let the post office know they sent hazardous material through the mail. Ugh!

Don't worry, my generation will fade soon enough and the Politically Correct can take over the language. richardlrst
You mean how the pc crowd demands we can only use the word '' they'' while referring to an individual these days ? I mean since '' he'' or '' she '' is now too gender specific .. Tulips

"They" may be plural, but it covers a nominative plurality, that is: he, she or it - language is ever changing and morphs to suit our needs . Yond's wherefore we nay longering speaketh elizabethan. Hopefully, though, our future won't involve speaking in LOLspeak. though sometimes I wonder.

“What is your preferred pronoun?” is becoming a common question.
Frankly, it’s just more personal info regarding their private life than I’m interested in knowing.

Griff is correct, at least in terms of modern buyer expectations.
How many people on this board have returned bathing suits, panties or other underwear to Target or any other department store?
Not all those items are individually tagged... and I sure hope the stores don’t put them back out.

Never heard that one before. Preferred pronoun - really?

In NY there are 31 recognized genders. Canada has Bill C 16.

Yes, for reals.
Of course, I DO live in Southern California.
We’re very gender identity sensitive around LA.

It's almost tempting to set up a category in your store entitled:
FAULTY RETURNS
and list the items as returned....
just to make a point. They will sit there for years and nobody will ever buy them. If only we could also include the buyer ID and name/address of who returned the item in that condition....

This is REALLY disgusting!

Poshmark has a pr of gray comfortable used socks for $100 $200.
In 1998 I found a listing for ONE sock, sold by a guy in a speedo holding up the sock. He said this sock "comforted" him on those long lonely nights at sea and could bring you satisfaction, too............it had 10 different biddders and it sold for close to $60 plus shipping.
