Unable to list...Ebay crashes nearly every time

I have been battling Ebay for months to get them to fix this issue.  It is a well documented problem that sellers are having.  You go to list an item, complete the listing, click to activate it and the screen turns white and you are sent into a permanent limbo land until you reboot your computer.  If you try to open another link, it cannot find Ebay.  You get their usual error code.  Ebay support continues to say that this is a known issue for some sellers yet it will not post information on its site that this is an issue because they say that not enough people have reported it.  I have done all of the following multiple times, plus more:

  • Making sure that any ad or pop up blockers be temporarily turned off.
  • Fully log out of eBay and log back in.
  • Force a browser refresh.  For most browsers this is done with a key combination while on the page you are having an issue with:  CTRL-SHIFT-R
  • Tried different browsers.
  • Tried different computers

Ebay continues to make this an issue for me only though they know others are having the same problem.  Please report this issue to customer service if you are having this problem.  They said they will not escalate it to a system wide issue until they get more reports.

Between that and my listings not showing, I am selling nothing.  And, I have been selling for 24 years now

I list every day and often multiple times a day.

As do millions of other sellers.

Perhaps the problem is with your computer?

Are you using a VPN? ebay isn't very friendly with those when it comes to uploading/ submitting.

No problems on my end.

If the Ebay site "crashes", then you can't go anywhere on Ebay because the entire site is down.  That is what "Crash" means.

You will likely find more help if you post this to the Technical Board.  I've seen this complaint before too, but no one seems to want to go to the forum that is more likely able to help.

Have you cleared your cache and cookies?

Sounds like it could be your internet connection.  Contact your provider and have them ping your modem.

Or turn your modem and router OFF.  let it set for 10-15 seconds and then fire them back up.

Just some ideas.

Posting this problem here on the selling board is fine, because eBay is just not taking this issue seriously as they should as 100s or 1000s of sellers are being negatively impacted, so showing it everywhere is good. Though to be fair the OP who stated this should be on the Technical Issues board is the better place to go.

I posted the advice below to sellers with this problem.  Almost none of the fix-its anyone suggests actually work, it is not your computer, router, modem.  It may be a VPN issue in some cases but most sellers don't have that to turn on or off.  The only fix-it that can work is using a mobile cell phone version of eBay, as that does not seem affected, but it is hard to list with a cell-phone.

Instead below is the "workaround" I have had to use / deal with for the past month:

This is what I do:  I start to list an item when I can, including upload photo(s), write a description, put a price etc. just like a regular listing, but then I also have another eBay page open, often just the main page, and click refresh.  If it goes down to the "Where's All The Stuff" do not press the List Item button yet.  Then refresh that main other page every 3 - 5 minutes, I know this can be tedious, but it usually comes back up again anywhere from 5 - 20 minutes later, once it comes back up, you can safely go back to the page of your listing and hit "List It.", which you should do right away, don't hit any other page of any kind or it could go down again.  Then do the same thing again.  It takes 5 - 10x as long, but at least you can list some items, because as you've seen, if you try to list when it is down, then all your work disappears.

I'm having the same problem and it's driving me insane.

Sometimes if I log off then log back on and go through the security (text to phone) thing, it's OK.

Sometimes if I swap browsers it's OK. But sometimes not.

I don't have the time to sit there all day re-doing listings.

I have a DECO mesh WiFi system, that could be the issue? But it's only recently started doing it, and I've had the DECO for a couple of years.

I encourage you and others that are having these kinds of issue to post them on the Technical Board.  You are far more likely to get some help there.

A mesh system shouldn't be a problem, I have one too and I don't have any problems with eBay not loading properly.

I'm having the same problem.  Ebay help said it was probably my Norton VPN.  How am I supposed to protect my computer if I constantly have to turn off my VPN for Ebay?  I've made many calls and have lost probably a hundred hours of work having to redo my listings when they did not save.  Ebay can fix this but doesn't want to for some reason.  They charge us high fees and the least we can expect is to have a site that works.  Period.

Can you list on your phone ? You could revise it, if it needs fine tuning, or save it as a draft and finish on your computer.

Go over to someone else's house and try using ebay on their computer.

It it works, then it is your computer.

Most problems like this are ultimately something on the user's system and not actually an ebay problem.
