USPS damaged item

Buyer says the USPS damaged the item and provided photos. They confirmed that the packaging was damaged too.

I know since I don't have insurance (and not Priority Mail) that I can't recover any cost. But is there something I can do to make a report of this with them so at least they have a record of how many packages they damage? Who knows, maybe after periodic evaluations that data may be used to limit these incidents.

They keep internal records of damage, no need for you to even think about reporting this.  There would be no point, no changes, no result at all.

As above...

If it's any consolation, if you can see a red "Received in Damaged Condition" stamp anywhere on the outside of the package in the photos, or any extra (re)taping in the damaged area(s), they're at least 'fessing up to being aware of it, even if there's no insurance to be claimed.

OP, you might want to go into your PO branch with the tracking number and the buyers pics and have them look the package up in their system.  Every time the package runs under an auto scanner at the sort center, there is a pic taken of the top of the package.  Ask the postmaster to find out if the package is really damaged and where that damage happened.  The odds are good that they will take a look so they can find trouble spots because even though you don't have insurance - the next one might.

And depending on how you shipped, there might be insurance.
