Two fees for shipping.

So I’m a new seller to eBay and sold 1 item so far and honestly quite discouraged. So at the time I created the shipping label I was charged $7.84 for the label, now in my selling profile my total payout is in the negative and I’m seeing another charge for $10.98 for shipping cost. What I’m curious about is if there’s two separate charges when shipping an item. One for the shipping label and another for the shipping itself, if that’s the case and I enter in the correct dimensions of the box for the shipping cost to buyers at the time of listing why isn’t eBay charging a sufficient amount when “buyer pays shipping” to cover the overall cost of shipment? Because for the one sale my buyer paid a total of $15.00 some odd dollars for shipping but if these charges are correct the shipping cost ends up totaling over $17.00 meaning that even though the buyer is supposed to pay for shipping costs, I’m still paying out of pocket for shipping expenses.

On eBay, the buyer pays the shipping costs to you.  Then you use that money to buy a label.   

You don't get "all the shipping money" since eBay takes their fees first.

The listing shows UPS as the carrier.

With UPS, you are not charged for the shipping until after the package has been delivered.

The charge you're shown by Ebay is just an estimate and UPS likes adding extra charges to the total.

When you sell an item EBAY immediately deducts (EBAY selling fees + shipping amount that customer paid you) .    Shipping money is being "held for you" to use when you print label.   

You only pay "once" for shipping but if you ship by UPS and FedEx you MAY get charged additional charges "after the fact".   Only USPS gives you the true cost with no added charges (after the fact).

I’m still a little confused, so when one of my items sold I selected the option to print the shipping label myself from home and paid a $7.98 fee using “UPS Savings Program for eBay sellers” now (15 days after the item was delivered) I’m being charged a $10.90 fee for shipping costs. I’m just trying to clarify that when you pay to ship an item with eBay you pay a fee for the shipping label, and a fee for shipping the item itself?

No, you pay for the cost of the shipping label only,  there are not 2 fees.  You were not charged a $7.98 fee when you printed the label.  UPS and FedEx labels are only charged for when delivered, not when you print the label.  Unlike usps, those couriers give you an estimate tether than actual cost.  In your case $7.98 was the estimate and the actual amount charged was $10.90.

When you buy the shipping label through Ebay, the $7.98 was just an estimate and you were not charged for it then.

They don't charge you until after the package has been delivered.

The $10.90 is the final bill, and that's all you pay.

Ahhh, there’s my dilemma then because my bank statement shows that I intact did pay $7.84 for the “estimated shipping” on 9/9 but now in my eBay seller profile is a charge for $10.90 which once it’s processed at the end of the month from my debit card there will be both a charge for the $7.84 on 9/9 and a charge for that whenever it withdrawals it from my account. What should I do in order to correct this? I spoke with two representatives this morning who were little to no help at all, and basically just insisted that I dispute the charge with my bank, because even though my bank statement does in fact show I paid $7.84 for shipping via UPS the day after my item sold, eBay supposedly has no record of that transaction which I find questionable as I paid it the same day I printed the shipping label.

However if I go to my seller page on eBay and look at shipping labels, it shows one label and the shipping cost shows $10.90, so I'm confused as to why if it gets charged to my debit card, why it would show up on my eBay account unless the overall cost of shipping amounted $18.74 and they're just charging the difference to my account. After close review of my bank statements though I can indeed confirm that I had no other activity/purchases/fees relating to UPS until 9/16 which was a charge for $7.99 which was just the fee paid to UPS so I could put a hold on a package at a carrier facility so I could go pick it up same day. Plus the date stamp of the $7.84 is the exact date in which I printed the label and shipped the item(s) so it coincides with everything. If it's a mistake on behalf of UPS that could be concerning as lord knows getting a hold of a real person on their customer service line is near impossible, shy of yelling at the automated voice messaging system until you confuse it.

Yes it does, on my bank statement it says UPS charged the card for $7.84, and the category being “Shipping”
