Just sold some champagne glasses to a buyer. No great shakes, a $24 sale; I sent him an offer.
He writes me and tells me that he lives on the west coast and that shipping is $24... is there a less expensive way to ship?
I write back and tell him no, that rates have gone up. I offer instead to refund him $5 once the transaction processes (I've done well on eBay this year and its not a problem for me).
He buys the glasses, I pack them up and go to print out his label.
His city suggests to me an expensive area.
I Google his address; sure enough, he lives in a $6,745,000 mansion that Redfin shows he bought just a few months ago.
(This is the second millionaire this week who has asked me for a shipping discount.) 😆

Maybe he's the owner's butler or private chef?

It's too bad that you had already completed the packaging, before looking up the millionaire's address.
It would have been fun, wrapping the individual glasses with pages from THE DAILY WORKER.

Things like this are just the reason why I went to " free shipping".
I was tired of questions about the shipping cost.
People have no idea how expensive shipping is, especially for china which is what I sell.

I'd be interested to know how you do your calculations... do you price shipping for the destination furthest from you within the continental USA? Thanks.

Just because they recently bought & live in a $6,745,000 mansion doesn't mean they are a millionaire.
The bank probably carries a $6,700,000 note on the joint, & the "owner" is probably buried in debt like far to many in this country. Probably has a negative net worth.
