Tis the season for non-payment?

I'm waiting on more unpaid orders than usual. Two have been given reminder emails from Ebay.  One guy wrote to say he'll pay Sunday so he'll get a reminder too. I wonder if more people than usual are too busy to pay? or tapped out for funds?

I think they want your item, but is waiting to see if another seller has the same or similar item for cheaper.  I have never encountered as many non-paying buyer as I do this year.  Most of them made an offer and I accepted, yet, they don't pay.  Go figure.  BTW, these non-paying buyer are not new members either.

A lot of the none payers we receive ask for the order to be closed once I invoice them.  I think in most cases there confusing the "Buy it now" button for Watch Item.

@keziak   UPI's seem to be on the rise ... as are returns because they found one cheaper ...

1. UPIs: the last two UPI claims that went the distance were from (4) Buyers and I think lack of experience contributes to the issue.  On one of them I messaged the day before the claim ended mentioning that if they paid that day day I would be happy to ship.  They messaged back that they were no longer interested and asked to be taken off the list.  I messaged back that when the claim ended they would be off the hook to pay.  These are not high volume Buyers nor are they aware of the eBay culture ... anyway, I Relisted the item (it was an Auction) and the good news is that it has already bid OVER the amount it did the first time!!!

2. "I found one cheaper" returns:  while rare, we do occasionally get Buyers who message saying they are returning an item because they found one for less elsewhere ... my wife has one of those right now but did not use Free Returns so she's not in the best position for reducing the amount refunded to the Buyer.

I think in general that the more one sells on eBay or other venues the number of these kind of things will increase, just part of Retail sales ...

When I sold on here I would do buy it now with payments due immediately to avoid all these folks. When I buy something here I always pay immediately after I have won the auction. If I don't have the money I won't bid.

Exactly. OP has been here for a while and should know this.

For a lot of people today is a payday.

If no-one gets paid ... these "ghost orders" still count towards eBay's GMV numbers.  christmas_tree

I do know this and haven't implemented it because I am fine with people taking a little while to pay.  This happens all the time and the transaction is good. I have noticed a blip of transactions going to automatic reminders lately though.

True, when there are no consequences, people do what they want at the expense of others.  Like I asked in another post, whatever happened to common courtesy?  Ask what you can do to make the world a better place, not what the world can do to make it a better place for you is my motto. LOL

Whatever works for you but why don't people take a little while to buy instead of a little while to pay.

Hopefully nobody complaining on this thread has ever changed their mind and returned a purchase to the store?

Some of your good buyers may have been NPBs on the sales of others. Would you prefer they take their thousands of dollars and go elsewhere? If eBay thought NPBs were costing money overall it would be a priority to deal with them. For the one person they don’t pay they could pay hundreds of others.

its one thing complaining about scammers, it’s totally different to complain about the inconvenience of non paying bidders. It’s just part of the business.

I use IPR on all my listings but I also have Best offer, so I get some slow payers.  I've only had 2 completely non-payers all year.  Right now they pay quickly because they want their purchases for Christmas.
