Hey,
I wanted to ask if anybody had any tips regarding the sale of very competitive products that sell hundreds/thousands of times daily. (E.g. Usb cables, clear phone cases...)
Those markets are obviously very difficult to enter, because even if one has a very high quality listing, including lower price, great pictures, description etc... One might only end up getting a few sales.
Is there any strategies to end up/work towards the top of page one while there are already established sellers, for instance selling at a loss to increase a listing's social proof/sales?
I'd love to hear your ideas.
Jack

Not unless you use Promoted Listings, which on those types of items, with all the Sellers from China....not sure it would make much difference.
Even Wally World figured out you cannot make up profit strictly thru volume. Why not find something better suited to you and that you are passionate about to sell vs trying to sell things that even the Sellers from China are having a hard time pushing?
Have you posted this on the U.K. Board to see if they have any ideas for you? Good luck!

don't sell extremely competitive products - you'll get slayed - find "products" that are less competitive but still sought - or unique to you.

You'd be competing with the China penny sellers, so you'd have to make it very obvious that you are a USA seller - plenty of people would spend a little more for a US seller than a China one mostly because of the transit time from China. I purchase nano receivers, cables and the like and have to really search for a US seller.

Hope you will find a solution. Good luck!

Ah - I didn't check. Still same advice, only stress that they are a UK seller - same deal.

That’s actually a great idea. I personally avoid China sellers like the plague when I buy from here and don’t mind paying a bit more for it. But also realize that many of those sellers are able to mask themselves as US sellers too… all the way down to where the item is shipping from (US, but it really isn’t). Tricky tricky sellers those guys.

As others have said, it's really really tough to compete in those spaces.
If you can it'd be much better to source unique, obscure things.
Heck even some DVDs (which many people think of as fairly worthless) are worth some big bucks, if it's something obscure!

Yeah, they are - I've had that switcheroo played on me, too. 😡 I sell peripherals (when I can get them - these days I keep running out) and make my listings really obviously not from China - if I were in the UK (where I was, oddly enough, staying for part of the year in the 'before times') I'd do exactly the same thing. Not using stock photos will differentiate right there.

I have yet to see a seller plaster the phrase “NOT A CHINA SELLER” all over their listings. That’ll get the message across too. Curious to see the impact on that. Not curious enough to try it myself 🙂

all that doesn't matter - have you searched for iphone cables, andriod cabels, chargers, phone cases? Pages upon pages - thousands of listings - and - available on ANY website ANYWHERE - stick to my original post - look at other products - accessories is just a horrible business choice.

I just make it really obvious with my photos and descriptions - also at least I don't sell cables and cell phone covers, though I have sold routers before and beaten out the big boys and girls by providing my own photos and description. Selling cell phone covers would be nuts - those things are like pollen in the spring - everywhere and more than anyone needs.
But hey, I've sold loads of CDs! In fact, I don't think I've ever donated any, I just lot them up here or on Mercari and out they go. I know someone who actually makes a side living selling CDs, but he's really good at it. I just get beer money for mine, but it's a quick list and ship.

I though cassini wasn't a thing anymore? Now days you have to be friends with eBay higher ups. Once you make it to that level they will happily promote your listings on their social media accounts even if they break eBay and/or FTC policies 🤣
