I listed an item this evening utilizing the "promote this item" option, but decided a couple of hours later that the promotion wasn't really needed (not much by way of competing listings). So I went in and edited the listing (dropped the price a bit), and unchecked the promotion box. After saving it I got a message that there was a problem editing the promotion, though the published revision did include the new price. After trying again, I went a different route and lowered the % on the promotion down to 1, which did save with no problems. But then I tried to remove the promotion and got the same error message. There are no watchers for the item, and it's not listed as best offer, so that can't be it. Is it normally possible to remove promotions, or are they a lifetime contract for the lifespan of the listing?

Better if you remove promote listing from your "Active Listing" page at your seller hub account, under "Promoted Listings" column, press "Edit promoted listing" , then choose "Stop promoting".

I don't think you can undo it once you choose it. If they did allow it, there would definitely be a time limit. Because people could undo it days into the auction if there wasn't a time limit.

@aqeeqsouq Thank you, sir, for that suggestion. It worked. Also, it made me realize I need to spend some more time working with Seller Hub--it seems to have quite a few tools that will be good to know. Again, many thanks.

You welcome.
*By the way, There is a wonderful research tool in seller hub called "Terapeak product research"
I recommend you to check it out, it's really useful, i can't live without it.

While the others answered the generic gist of this, I thought it would be well enough to note that views to the item will lock in the old promoted rate for those particular views for a set amount of time (30 days I think). So if buyer views the item through a PL link while you have it at 10%, and you adjust it to 4% the day after, they can come in 5 days later and buy it and you will be charged at the 10% rate.
