And it doesn't even look sexy.
Probably 75% -- maybe a lot more -- of the hoops Ebay forces sellers to jump through and 98% of all the busy-work and really eye-bullying pages, links and assorted garbage is unnecessary.
One has to wonder if Ebay feels insecure under the crtitical importance of its sellers that keep it afloat, and this is Ebay's way of asserting "author-o-tay". That's a question.
Every time Ebay says they're improving efficiency with "brand new looks!", they are actually destroying it. It belies an apparent lack of objective. Profits never increase when efficiency decreases. You don't have to be an MBA to realize this.
Does anyone have a clue what Ebay is trying to do?

Don't judge your buyers by the way YOU shop.
My husband and I are in our 50's. We both have smartphones and tablets ... and use them constantly.
And most of our friends do too ... our friends group ages from 40's to 70's ... all have smartphones and tablets ... and use them to shop.
And, conversely, don't judge others by what you do, or know.
I'm 79 and have 4 desktops within reach, 3 laptops - which seldom have a charge, let alone are used and a couple of 'little' ones - same. Flip phone, no smart phone. I don't pay bills online or by phone. My roommate - 71 - flip phone and doesn't pay bills online of by phone, either. Very few of our friends do the mobile gig, though there are some kids in their 30's-40's who do. Most of what we buy, is either at the store or an Antique show or a speciality site (which is getting quite rare to find anything these days).
The world is as different as there are people in it.
I'm not judging anybody... I am pointing out to the OP that there ARE lots of mobile users that aren't millennial. And that mobile is not *trendy*, but rather a fact of life for anyone in ecommerce.
We have, in this household of two 50+
1 Desktop
2 Laptops
2 Smartphones
2 Tablets
The desktop is in my office and it is where I list from and where we pay the bills from (because that is where the file cabinet is and the desk with the inbox).
But the mobile devices get more everyday use for everything else.
It actually annoys me, when I am shopping or researching on my phone or tablet, when a website is not mobile friendly.
What I am trying to say is ... any seller that disparages mobile users, or thinks that mobile is not relevant to them, is dismissing approximately 50% of their buyers (as shown in my screenshots). And ... I would think that the percentage is higher for those sellers catering to the "newest and hottest" crowd.
The app is terrible for listing or doing any seller-related tasks ... but it obviously does the job for buyers.
We have
2 desktops
2 iPads
2 phones
just gave away 1 laptop because of lack of use
I do everything from my iPad, list, sell, buy, pay bills, schedule payments, actually everything. The only time I boot up the desktop, and this is my own insecurity, is to print my shipping labels as I don’t want to get into a void label or different tracking number situation. Someday when I get my gutsy up (as I am frequently known to do), I will do that as well from my iPad.
The only thing ebay related I do from my phone is if I am not at home and am watching an item, or my items, or to place an occasional last minute bid.
No millennial here although I do have two millennial grandchildren. (Ahem, very young grandmother here 😉!

I posted a link from Statistica ^^up there somewhere^^.That statistic is for "unique visits" in the month of October 2017.
Not downloads ... actual visits to the site using the app.
54 Million
In the month of October 2017.
I also posted, in the same post .... The eBay app is the #3 "most used" retail app in the United States ... Amazon and Wal-Mart are the only ones above it.
I don't generally click on links in threads, but, thank you.
I wonder how many of those visits were actually of 'benefit' for sellers on ebay, or for ebay, itself?
Right, and we've seen stats of the market share comparison of activity and value of all three. Shorty vs Goliath & Attilla.

Yes, we all do what works best, with what is most comfortable, for us.
I suppose my gripe is that so many insist that THEIR way is the ONLY way to go. And, it is usually someone with an agenda that is beneficial mainly to themselves or someone in the crowd that thinks because someone says it the loudest, it is the truest.

In the same post, I showed that my average percentage of mobile buyers on PayPal is around 50%
My listings are all BIN/IPR ... so, if they are paying with mobile, they shopped and bought on mobile.

Are there any statistics on how many actually use them, or how many use them twice or how many download more than once or ....?
Downloading an app doesn't mean that it is used or used frequently or used for the purpose it was intended.
"lies, 'dang' lies, and statistics" - to make an acceptable paraphrase.
The APP is just one way to use mobile. You do not have to use the app to shop on eBay from a mobile device. The stats that I shared shows 60% of transactions have mobile touchpoints to them. The stats also show that 13 Million new listing get done through mobile each week which is up from 10 million each week a couple years ago.
The amount of downloaded eBay apps is not skewed as someone suggested. That is the number of downloads. eBay has not mentioned anything accept we have had this many downloads.

Hey, Good Friend Good: what I would like to know? How many mobile payments were made that ended up being a return, whether a remorse, a bogus Snad, or a real SNAD?
Last 3 remorse I received were all Mobile Payments which TG PP actually cites that. And for me, I had 3 honest buyers to claim remorse, and not a SNAD.
Since you quote the above stats, somebody has to have the info I need re: how many returns related to mobile buying...Thanks as usual.

The link I provided with the stats is an eBay investors fact sheet. You can use that link and at the bottom on the page will be a contact us for more details.
Maybe that will help you find what you need?

Hey, Good. Any way you can resend that to me without my having to weed through all of these posts? I wouldn't assume eBay would know the return rates when using Mobile? If that citing has the return rates related to buyer's using Mobile, appreciate it. Unless you would be directly me to PayPal?

I'm not even going to entertain that remark. Anyone who calls a statement of facts a demonstration of anger does not deserve a reply. He/she should instead be sequestered in their safe space until their kiddy garter teacher tells them it's okay to come out.
So you are not going to tell us what is causing your anger ? OK

Here's the link that GoodLuck posted earlier ... there's nothing about returns in there.

I certainly wouldn't disparage mobile users... "50% of their buyers" may be true for what you sell, and may well represent the broad swath of "ecommerce", but it's not 50% of my buyers. It's more like 10%. But it matters not, I'll take anyone's money, they can use a cup and a string to shout the order to me if they want.
And ... I would think that the percentage is higher for those sellers catering to the "newest and hottest" crowd.
I don't discount that eBay is very focused on mobile, and that buyers of "new eBay" (the site they're transforming into) items are in that crowd. I'm fine with that, I applaud them. Even if it's only 10% for my buyer group, 10% more bids is a good thing, I'll take it. That said, eBay should work for both, and work well for both.

Thank you, Pen, for the article. I asked about returns versus mobile since I do believe no one is reading any of the listing fine print (which isn't really fine print, it is the description of the listing) causes more returns than normal. On the 3 remorse I had from December and January, all claimed they didn't read the description, just the title and purchased.
I now put measurements and any other key issues not only in Title, Specifics and narrative description, but also in the Condition block. That gives the buyer 4 distinct places to view. I know it sounds like overkill, but I would rather not have a sale then deal with a return (and counting on the honesty of the buyer on the type of return).
Thank you for your help.

In one of my stores stats show 64% of sales were from mobile devices. In the other one 45% from mobile devices. Your results may vary. I dunno if a majority overall are using mobile devices, but sure at least a very large minority are.
