The audacity to allow fraud and charge me an additional 20$

cellitnow_com_0-1654640738314.jpeg

like wow, amazing resolution process. Any buyer can get an item for free if they file a credit card chargeback, not a single ounce of proof or messaging was made from the buyer. no need to return it, eBay let’s them keep the item and a FULL refund.  Isn’t there seller protection? Or is that just talk, the item was confirmed delivered by usps. They tell me to respond to the claim proving it’s as described ? How stupid is that , the buyer hasn’t made any statement? Only filed a chargeback, how am I supposed to reply. This has happened TWICE. eBay automatically gives back money for buyer filing not as described credit card chargeback.  I call up CS (which takes a long time because they do their best to hide the customer service number and steer you away from talking to anybody once you finally call up). The CS rep says maybe I can ask the buyer to please send me the money back LOL.
I have paid about 10,000$ ( 125k sales x 8%) in fees in the last 3 months and this is how a loyal seller is treated.

You need to reply next time and say they are allowed to return item and try to get them to pay shipping return. That is the only way to really handle those things. Then block them as a buyer. Ebay sides with buyer.

It had nothing to do with Ebay, it was the buyers credit card company.

Have a great day.

What is it you want eBay to do?

Seller protections are limited on eBay. The buyers have the protection and sellers are responsible for their actions on the platform. But this dispute is not eBay’s doing. You should direct your anger at the buyer.

eBay does not “let” the buyer keep the item. The credit card company does, along with the fraudulent buyer. eBay has very little to do with a credit card payment dispute. They can assert no control over the proceedings.

And on top of this, if you did not submit your evidence disputing the buyer’s position, of course they will not find for you. That is your only chance, as inadequate as it is. In any event, there is very little chance of a seller prevailing under those circumstances when a buyer initiates a credit card chargeback.

This is one of the well-known risks we take as sellers on eBay. Sorry this happened to you.

Has nothing to do with eBay whatsoever.  You were notified by eBay from Adyen, their processor.

Same as on Amazon or any other major venue, though different payment processors.

Yes, most any buyer can file a frivolous credit card chargeback. I say most because CC/Banks have a certain tolerance for that sort of behavior and then the cardholder is refused chargeback capability.

This is one of the well-known risks we take as sellers on eBay who accept credit card payments especially "card not present" (online transactions).

Buyer protection is the key marketing tool that Visa, MasterCard & Amex use to encourage the use of their cards, always have and always will.

Blaming eBay for not bailing you out is akin to blaming your B&M landlord for not covering your shoplifting losses.

FYI - The $20 fee for a chargeback does not go to eBay, it is the standard charge that credit card companies apply to any merchant dispute that is decided in the favour of the cardholder.

@cellitnow_com

FYI - Your user name is an eBay policy violation unless you registered your account prior to 2001.

Ahh the buyer filed with their payment method. (Payment dispute). Not much eBay can do about such depending on the reason it was filed.

You were given the option depending on reason of such to try and get them to return.

Strange thing is; some acualy have the buyer send the item to ebay: merchant of record. so such of course is lost.   Again depends on reason filed a claim with the payment service.

Of course the extra 20 was due to this is a payment dispute and out side of ebay's rules and regs...

Yep got you on this one for sure.

I have made eBay a fortune in fees . I’m sure they can afford to give me a courtesy credit. The buyers still allowed to buy on eBay, I’m sure they can do more why would the credit card company make a judgement when they know anybody buying on eBay can just return it. If fraud is that easy. What’s stopping everybody from doing the same thing ? Illegal but easy and no repercussions .

Stupid eBay

What stops "everybody" from doing false chargebacks is the same thing that stops them from shoplifting, vandalizing, looting, cheating, lying, and kicking puppies:  Most humans are decent and good, and they do the right thing nearly all the time all their lives.

But for the few who want to steal, chargebacks work:  The credit card companies don't want to spend any money on investigation or lose any customers of their own, so they smile and nod and okay every chargeback and let the devil take the hindmost -- the hindmost being honest sellers and, ultimately, honest buyers who must pay more for everything to cover the sellers' losses.

And it;s got nothing to do with eBay.  eBay cannot stop a chargeback or alter a credit card company's decision on a chargeback.

Basically as I see it, eBay has no monetary incentive to do otherwise in these situations.  So long as sellers are willing to go along with eBay's  stale tale of "it is the credit card company and nothing we can do" mantra, no changes will be made.  After all, ebay gets the same final value fees if  YOU win or lose with any SNAD c.chargeback.

Sellers list anyway.  I am sure eBay knows sellers will.  You did, since this is your second go round with this.

The internet is a big place now.  Diversification is a plan you should consider.

Morality is what stops me. And even if I had no morality, the PITA of having to get a new credit card each time I did a chargeback would.

What happens if a buyer claims that they did not purchase the item and files a chargeback with their CC card company? The seller did not authorized the credit card payment, Ebay or whoever the processor is the one who authorized the payment not the seller.  Would a seller be charged back for something that they had nothing to do with?

Assuming the seller shipped to the address that was entered and the chargeback is only about the card holder stating he did not make the purchase. I am asking about this because someone made the comment that the reason for the chargeback does not matter to Ebay. In the example above it clearly does matter and I would hope the seller would not be affected in any way.

I had one on Amazon in January. Absolutely zero information provided as to why the chargeback occurred. NOTHING.

Buyer had waited until a couple of days passed after the tracking was flushed (like ~4 months)

I defended the best I could. Took them 8 weeks to come back and say they were charging my account for the chargeback.

Their sandbox, their rules. Take it or leave it.

Has this happened to anyone else selling on eBay? i have over 20 years as a seller, with 5 Star detailed seller ratings across the board + 99.5% Positive feedback. Is eBay targeting sellers to be able to charge higher fees & maximize their profits. are Sellers being victimized? this is unbelievable! Who exactly does these "evaluations" ? Both sales that caused this level drop were sellers who filed returns & then never returned items. it seems eBay cares NOTHING about sellers, unless they are big enough to "matter". Small business will have no place here on eBay soon. very sad.. anyone have similar experience??
