Text scam ???

I’m new to this selling on eBay just started  couple days ago just yesterday somebody already offered a payment on the stuff I lost cv on eBay I was tooooo excited! eBay sent me a message saying waiting for the buyers payment and will let you know. Then the following morning this buyer sent me messages to text him or call to let me know where to send the package as well as asking me how he send me method of payment so I can send his shipment today. I was confused because I rely on eBay contacting when this buyer supposedly paid it or not so i  google if there is something like a “ text scam “ going on eBay ....

Newbie "fresh off the boat" sellers are a magnet for SCAMMERS.  SCAMMERS know their chances of a successful scam is going after the inexperienced, new and hopefully GULLIBLE excited for a sale seller. Just CANCEL any transaction, BLOCK buyer, and move on and learn from experience.

This is a scam. Good on you for catching it. A lot of people come here AFTER they got scammed.

Yes, it's a scam. Ignore the text message. Don't ship anything until you've received the payment. If you're using PayPal, log in to your account to make sure the money is there and PayPal says it's okay to ship. If you're in Managed Payments, the sale will appear on your "awaiting shipment" list, and the payment will be shown as processing.

%100 a SCAM attempt. Never text or communicate with a buyer outside of the

eBay message system. They are trying to trick you into giving them your PayPal

e-mail address so they can send you a fake e-mail saying you have been paid.

Nobody need your PayPal e-mail address to pay you.

There will be no payment.

After 48 hours has passed sure to file a non paying bidder dispute, and then 96 hours after that close it as "not paid" so that your eBay fees will be refunded.

Why doesn’t eBay close their (scammers) account?!?

The “text scam” has been a scam since texting became a thing. People with no moral compass just waiting in the wings for the newest possibility of separating people from their money. As long as you keep everything inside eBay you will be protected. No matter how tempting the outside offer is you lose.

Yes, people asking to communicate throughtexting/email is a scammer! They like to scam brand new sellers with expensive items. Avoid accepting offers with people who are new and with (0) feedback.

eBay will likely close the account used to send the attempted scam message, but that does not happen instantaneously. Scammers are not actually stopped by closing an account, of course. Scammers will create new accounts using false credentials or else hijack other accounts and continue sending such scam messages.

Sellers must continue to remain vigilant and not give in to a request to violate policy by sharing outside contact information before a transaction has been paid for.
