Suspicious buyer

I sold an item for $195, buyer paid and I bought the shipping label. Then I started getting messages from him- some in Spanish, some in English- Please cancel order, it was a mistake..... Someone stole my credit card, I'm notifying the bank now.....Sorry, I DO want the item, my son was just fooling around on my phone

I cancelled the label and hopefully I will be refunded. I tried to contact eBay but I can't get past the automated assistant. I think the order is still active, I don't know how to cancel it. I don't want to sell to this person - it sounds sketchy.

How should I proceed?

Thank you

Did you make sure the messages were actually from the buyer and not someone else messaging about the item first?

You will be refunded for the label if you voided it and never used it, though it takes a while.  You shouldn't need to contact eBay, just go to the Paid and Shipped orders page, and from the drop-down menu choose Cancel Order, and choose "Buyer Requested to Cancel" as the reason.  You won't be penalized, and you'll get back your final value fees.  I would probably block that buyer too, but that's up to you.

Just more undeserved revenue and sales for the site to report due to all the cancellations - Hmmmm - Think I'm seeing a trend/correlation here...

What does that mean?  Cancelled sales are sales for no one as they are cancelled.

Think they are talking about the .35-.40 transaction fee or other non refundable fees such as reserve auction fee.

That fixed fee is refunded too now, on a cancellation at least (and most other situations where eBay doesn't force the refund).  Other fees would be charged even if it didn't sell at all, so their comment is just nonsense.

Depending on the reason for the Cancellation, Ebay refunds that fee too.  The 30 cent per transaction fee for sales under $10 and 40 cents for those over $10.

Really does not make sense: stolen card, and still wants an item??? That's good you canceled the label, and sure it will be refunded. In such case I would tell the buyer to submit a request for cancelation. If the buyer doesn't do it immediately, I'll cancel it by myself.  When you look at the order, there is a drop menu arrow to click on, and you will see an option for cancelation.

Cancel Transaction: "Buyer Requested".

You do this in the seller hub in the menu next to the transaction.

The buyer already did that, then changed their mind, then changed their mind again, which is the whole problem the OP has.  The buyer can't seem to make up their mind.

IMHO the OP should just cancel the transaction with the reason the buyer requested it, because they did.

I agree with @luckythewinner .

Not much to think about here.

Cancel the sale (as the buyer requested) and move on.

The customer already did that in the email.

If a shipping label isn't scanned you will get your money back, so no worries. Since he's saying yes, no, yes, no I personally wouldn't sell to him and block him. If you decide to send it he might want to return it, probably one of those that wait until 29 days...then you'll have to pay for another shipping label...so no way.
