I'm lucky if I clear 9.5% on a sale after Ebay takes 15%, and then tells me, I should be paying 9.5% instead of 2% which is double what I used to pay. So send 25% of the sale to ebay to increase sales, and make less money. Uh huh. Right.
The nerve! Especially with sales off the way they are.
People aren't fixing their gas guzzling Benz's which happens to be my specialty.
I for one have 2 Benz's parked, but we're driving the 1999 Ford Escort I inherited from my Dad that gets upward of 30mpg.
Up to 35 or more even. Otherwise it costs $5 every time I start the engine in the Benz.
Ford is not comfortable but what the heck. Only take the Benz for short trips to the store.
9.5% !!!!!!!! RRRRRRR

The bottom line is that the suggested ad rate is a fake bot derived number.
It is designed to milk even more $$$ by the venue on top of what you already pay.

Some people have stated that they comfortably promote @ 20%. Each person has their own tolerance I guess.

How much you are wi9lling to pay to promote your item is a personal decision. But I would think that if you are only netting 9.5% on Ebay sales that your margins are too low given our sales volume.

eBay promos advance your placement in the listings. Your item sounds like a 1 off, why are you promoting it ? You should have the #1 spot or close to it in placement. The tool is primarily for when you have lots of competition or doing lots of volume with your high profit spreads.
I have a benz diesel parked too (SD) , used to drive it when I was in sales, put it in cruise control and sat in the back and enjoyed a cup of Java, LOL

Your also lucky you only got nailed for 9.5, in the past they allowed sellers to use 100%. Recently so many sellers used 1% that they just raised the min to 2%. They did nothing to change the program, just wanted to double the fees.

In my category, I don't find 9.5% bad at all. Everyone's tolerance is different, everyone's category is different & everyone's margins are different.

But you do understand that buying an ad in the first place is entirely voluntary.
Some years ago I was dunned by Google to buy ads on their platform for my independent site. I never did. Yet my site and its listings still show up in Google searches.
I have NEVER bought an eBay ad yet my listings show up in eBay search results and I make sales.
Are you really sure the ads are necessary and are they really helping? (And if they are then what is your complaint)

You have over 11k of items listed - the average seller does not. Depending on what you sell, what your listing numbers are, what categories, etc......sometimes it does take an ad promotion to get your items front and center.
Who knows - but 9.5% seems high. But some of mine tell me 12%. I ignore, ignore, ignore the 12% lol

If times are tough, check a simple adjustment.
For Search instead of :
07 08 09 Mercedes Benz E350 4matic Rear Differential bearings 2 pinion/ 2carrier
Try :
E350 4matic Rear Differential bearings 2 pinion 2carrier 07 08 09 Mercedes Benz
Or :
Rear Differential bearings 2 pinion 2carrier E350 4matic 07 08 09 Mercedes Benz
I don't use adds or PL's.

I sell shoes where profits are extremely thin and I've noticing an spike on all suggested ad rate most of them over 10% to 14% and sales have gone down almost 40%, really bad for everyone

Depends on the item. A lot of things I do not promote at all.
But clothes, hats. I have no problem doing 10 percent, it is absolutely the difference between it selling in a month or it still being unsold a year later.

Suggested ad rate 9.5% LMAOROTFL !! Seriously?
You should try the 100% Ad Rate. Sales are great, but you have to pay eBay considerably more than the buyer paid for the Item + Shipping +Tax.
Wait for the Fall Update for more features from eBay to help improve your sales! (eBay will take care of your profits) 🙄

That eBay even allows a 100% ad rate defies comprehension.
