Sudden drop in sales May 2022

Past the halfway point on my 3rd Quarter 30 day PLS Campaign ... sales are half of what they used to be.  Impressions are down from the 80,000 to 90,000 range to 50,000 - 65,000 on the busiest days ... and steadily declining.  The peak days on the chart are Sundays, just so you know.

Something is ... very ... definitely ........... wrong ...

bigger issue could be (at least with mine..maybe others seen this too?) if you go download Listing Traffic Report and look under column S for "page views via promoted listings impressions from outside ebay (search engines affiliates)" all my listings show 0.
IMG_3853_14.jpg
Then I downloaded Listing Quality Report and looked under the section for google and says everything is fine.

Sudden drop in sales May 2022

@nuclearomen   To me that makes sense because my understanding of PLS Standard is listings are promoted (sponsored) on the eBay site and not outside it.  I suspect that report is geared more towards the PLS Advanced where Sellers are paying upfront advertising money competing for the top 4 spots in a returned search and the algorithm for that might include the "outside eBay" search engines, etc.   I could be wrong of course but it would make sense.

Maybe someone using the PLS Advanced might be able to share that report so we could see if any Views have been recorded.

Sudden drop in sales May 2022

I am experiencing the same slowdown/stoppage of sales. Whatever the heck they did back in May/June is just not going away!   Views are down/ impressions are down/ sales are down. All literally overnight like a light switch was flipped- NOT economy related.

80% of the sales that I've gotten in the last couple months are because I sent offers. Hardly any organic sales whatsoever

I was expecting them to figure out what went wrong with the last update by now and fix it.

Ebay - your lack of insight and planning when making serious changes to the platform has now cost sellers 1/4 of their yearly income..... a whole fiscal quarter has been erased from our books over some incompetent screwup in design or programming.

velvet@ebay - you have been very helpful at responding and being a go-between with the teams working on this- Can we get a real answer yet ?( not a "were looking into it but think it all working as intended" response?       I know for sure that if ebay told its employees that there was a glitch and the payroll system was down and you would not get paid for 3 months- you guys would be storming the office doors of management. We need someone on the sellers side here. we cannot go on being ignored.   Thanks for looking into it again for us- is there someone else higher up the command chain that you can contact?- obviously the teams that have caused this issue do not want to make a bigger deal out of it by highlighting it further...... are they ignoring this to save their jobs?

Sudden drop in sales May 2022

@siamjane8   Good post ... I had a stretch where the trend was sales coming from Repeat Buyers, short duration Auctions and Offers I SENT and that was in the middle of a PLS standard Campaign which was under performing (that's the trend for PLS for 2022).

Its almost like GTC listings don't exist in the categories I sell in or don't appear in Search results until they are inside the last 10 days of the listing cycle.

There are enough posts like yours, mine and others who have enough experience Selling that this particular long term drop in sales has been created by Home Office and not any other outside influences.

I have no doubt velvet@ebay has done her job with regard to making inquires for us ... but I also have no doubt she is getting stonewalled by the people who know what's going on but are simply too afraid to admit their mistakes or confess that they really screwed up or (and more scary) they have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it.

I am also suspecting that the new listing tool is not functioning properly with regard to being accessed by search on the Item Specifics (meaning more badly written code by IT perhaps???) ... I have a thread on this with regard to the UPC field NEVER showing it has a match from known good UPC codes I input ... we're talking hundreds and I have used the tool most of the year.  I am now in Week two waiting for a reply from an eBay Team member on this issue.  Seriously, not a single UPC has ever come up as finding a match since using the new tool.

@mr_lincoln no, all PLs are promoted through google, all non promoted listings are searchable through google - ebay has nothing to do with that, Google will pick up and display any relevant marketplace item they find that matches key words entered into their search engine. When PL started what is now called PLS they were not, but ebay changed that over a year and half ago or so, all PL be it PLS or PLA are promoted through Google.

IMG_3853_15.jpg

The reports I posted contradict one another, one says zero views (Listing Traffic Report) the other says listings are performing well and no opportunities found (Listing Quality Report). Further more the numbers through seller hub listings page view counter for each item and the number of "clicks" registered under the PLS campaign don't match either, if the clicks say idk 1000 then your view counts on listings should reflect that and well lol they don't views instead on listings are like 2-3-10 (you get the point) - every report ebay provides contradicts each other, numbers and figures don't match or add up at all.

Further more, in May when all this downfall started Google also took changes to their search - which according from outside ebay professional sources caused major disruptions to marketplace and site shopping traffic. The question is did ebay correct anything on their side with algorithms that submit listings to google (cause it's algorithms that decide what listings to send to google and any rejected from google would be on the Listing Quality Report explaining why they were rejected...mine doesn't have any (and never has).

@nuclearomen   First and foremost, thank you for clarifying that ... good point on Views.  Since eBay took away our ability to sort the Views column I had to go down through my listings to count up ZERO and 1 View count listings last week.  23.5% had ZERO and 18% had ONE View ... that's 41.5% of my listings that were virtually invisible ...

@mr_lincoln  no problem, welcome... yup, now look at your Promoted Listings page (through Seller Hub Overview page - in the "Selling Tools" module - scroll down and look at your # of clicks registered for the campaign - this can much harder to determine if you have been running same campaign for while because ebay changed the views on listings to go back to zero every month - but I started new campaign July 17 so it was easier for me to determine with reports downloading.

@nuclearomen   Just did as suggested and my current 30 day PLS started 2 days before yours on July 15.

Here's the clicks Performance chart ... note the severe drop off August 1 ... the peak was on Sunday the 24th of July.

@mr_lincoln what your looking for is the clicks below the graph (I started new campaign last night...i'm "tinkering" and experimenting trying to figure out how to at least make sales better - most this is ebay's side of the spectrum and nothing I can do so I'm experimenting to recording results daily) but I had sale very early in the morning on PLS already since started this last night.

@mr_lincoln hmm...did you access you graph via the link on Seller Hub Overview? It should be right below the graph then.

Sudden drop in sales May 2022

@nuclearomen @mr_lincoln

Seems like so many of us are in the same boat.....

I had never thought that the new unified listing flow could be causing issues with search but  anything is possible. I did run into the same issue- I have never been able to add a upc- just NO MATCH FOUND. Obviously that can effect search if none of our newer listings have upc added.  Also you may be correct that the legacy search and the new code are not meshing with item specifics- that could be a huge part of the problem...... although it does not explain the drop in sales on the 4000 older listings we have..

The google issue is probably a real issue as well but it is ebay's job as a company to address and adapt to changes like that- literally what they are supposed to do.

Algorithm changes to allow more promoted listings is probably not helping either

For sure it is a complicated situation and multi-faceted but it is a REAL PROBLEM that needs to be figured out and fixed- Absolutely nobody is winning in this situation- sellers are struggling, buyers are being frustrated and ebay is loosing revenue which is causing them to raise fees to make up for it which is causing less people to want to sell here----- its the giant spiral downward that needs to stop and ebay has to stop it because they are the cause of it.

@siamjane8  My current PLS Standard Campaign has a fixed 7% Ad rate ... THAT is a significant amount in my categories ... I have used a fixed rate between 5% & 10% over the years and run at least one PLS per quarter for 30 days.  Prior to 2022 those PLS Campaigns would:

-Result in higher sales volume and dollars during the Campaign

-Drive traffic so other things would sell

-More Long tail items would sell during the Campaign then times without a Campaign

In 2022 all three PLS have under performed and I used 5%, 6%, 7% Ad rates ...
