Struggling to sell what can I do differently?

Hello Sellers!

I started out on Ebay a few weeks ago selling clothes. I'm having a tough time making sales and getting views. I do lots of research on pricing before listing my item to make sure my prices are competitive. I feel like I have good titles ( Starting to doubt that since I'm not making sales). I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand!! Thank you!

Here is a a link to listing incase you wanted to give me some pointers

Struggling to sell what can I do differently?

Hi. I looked at your Tommy polo. The issues I experienced were I was unable to find out my shipping cost (I'm in the US). It kept telling me to enter a valid zip code and I was doing that.

Buyers may be uncomfortable because you have zero feedback. Maybe if you even had a couple FB from purchases it might help.

Lack of measurements can hurt. You mentioned this item doesn't run true to size which is helpful but actual measurements would be even better.

You don't offer returns which I think buyers expect these days.

Editing to add I don't believe the listing has a photo of the entire item, just pieces in each shot.

You should offer quicker shipping times. I do one business day for handling time. Also, buyers love free shipping and 30-day return. You have no seller reputation, so sell inexpensive items to get started. I only started selling on eBay in March. I became a top rated seller in May and a power seller in June. It has been a learning experience. Yet I am guilty as a buyer I look at the seller's reputation. If you want to be successful do whatever you can to make your customers happy. Having return customers is a great feeling. Also having customers is what selling is all about.

I am both a buyer & a seller. I wouldn't buy from you right now & I'll explain why.

I just looked at the Nike Anorak & the Nike Air Top Long Sleeve listings.

I'll discuss those listings first:

You don't write your own descriptions and you don't take your own pictures.  I know you did take some of pics of the Nike Air Top Long Sleeve. You should be taking all of them.

In my eyes & my personal opinion, it makes you look lazy and scammy. Especially as a new seller.

Do you have permission from NIKE to use their pictures or description word for word. BTW, that is a rhetorical question as I already know the answer.

Please don't tell me that other people do it so you felt it was ok. It's not.

If you're going to appeal to buyers, you need to do your own work. Take your own pictures & write your own descriptions.

In simple terms make an honest effort.

The listing for the Peter Stastny Quebec: There is virtually no description & there isn't even a size listed. Don't take pictures of clothing on a floor. It turns off buyers. But at least the pics look like you took them.

The vintage Adidas Hoodie: "Small little hole on back"

Measure the hole, show a picture of it if possible. What's a small hole to you might be a big hole to a buyer.

Clothing is a tough enough category to sell in. Measurements are a must.

Write your description like there are no pictures & post pictures like there is no description.

Again, that is my opinion. You asked for advice and I'm giving it to you. You don't have have to like it & you don't have to agree with it.

Since you are shipping from Canada, you might want to post this to dotCA instead.

I understand why you are offering Free domestic Shipping to Canada, but you might be shooting yourself in the foot there.

That's going to go parcel, and while I hope you have calculated the cost of shipping into your asking price, parcel rates are based on weight, dimensions, and destination.

I can send a paperback from BC to AB for $5 regular parcel but for NL it would cost $12.

OTOH, you basically pay one rate for parcels going anywhere in the USA including Alaska and Hawai'i.

If anything, charge Calculated Shipping for Canada and Flat Rate $0.00 for the USA.

FREE SHIPPING MEANS THE COST OF SHIPPING IS INCLUDED IN THE ASKING PRICE.

Drop into the Canada Seller Boards and look for poster ypdc_dennis, who is carefully following the current changes in shipping costs.

The new SnapShip program from Canada Post changes on July 31, but there are also changes with the new Shippo! program.

Both give substantial discounts.

And get your Small Business Solutions at the PO. Some outlets may not understand them, but the real post offices do. They are free and worth 5% or more (sometimes much more) off PO counter prices.

Your photos are good.

You can turn that label around using the circle arrow thingy. Then hit Save.

FITS LIKE A LARGE. I am 6"2 175 and this item fits perfectly.

Umm . No.

If it's New With Tags, don't indicate that a human being has ever worn it. You may be using yourself as a model, but don't say so. (Cutting off most of the face is a good idea.)

As another poster said, measurements.

Every company has its own idea of what a medium or a large is.

I dunno about men, but women would rather have a Size 4 that fits 34-26-36 than a Size 14 that fits 34-26-36.

And with unisex garments like a hoodie, add arm lengths.

Hey-- fun fact-- in Saskatchwan that would be called a bunnyhug.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESIkrxNq1GE

OP, a lot of people will give you pointers about your listings to make the listing better, but the odds are good that it won't do much to improve your sales.

You said that you did a lot of research on price, but if the item is not longer desired by the buying public, then it will not sell, no matter how perfect you think the price is.  You have to research the trends, follow seasons, watch the styles and on and on to be successful when selling in a bloated market.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to buy a load of brand name clothing at less than 50 cents a piece for resale.  I passed on the Tommy stuff because I have a hard time selling it, the name doesn't hold the prestige it used to.   But i can still flip Ralph Lauren Polo brand stuff easily.

If you are cleaning out your closets, you have to be asking yourself why you are getting rid of the items, what about them is it that you don't want to wear them anymore.  You have to consider that if you don't like them anymore, others might be feeling the same way.  And that might be the reason your items aren't selling like you want them to.

Struggling to sell what can I do differently?

Thank you very much for the input. Ive had the same issue with calculating the shipping, whenever I enter the zip code it doesnt work. I've noted what you said and will make some adjustments to my polo next time around. Thank you again!

That's because you don't have a zipcode. Those look like 90210.

You are in Canada and have a postal code. Those look like K1A 0A6.

If you are posting on dotCOM (the US site) you can only use Flat Rate Shipping from an International Destination.

Since you are selling items that require Parcel shipping, you will be much better off listing on dotCA , our own Canadian site, and use Calculated Shipping based on Canada Post rates.

If you actually are shipping from the USA (including if you have contracted with chitchatexpress who are in Montreal to carry your shipments across the border for the USPS), then you MUST change your location to the USPS PO that chitchat uses.

Don't worry too much that dotCA requires you to list in loonies. If you ship to the USA your listings will appear on the dotCOM Search in US dollars.

On the actual listing, both currencies will appear.

But don't use dotCOM for items that will have variable shipping costs. That's a fast way to lose money.

You've gotten some great advice from everyone, the only thing I have to add is that clothing is far and away the toughest category to crack on Ebay.

Get rid of the stock pictures on the Nike immediately and take your own, add measurements to every clothing item, don't rate the condition of items on a scale of 1 to 10 that is very confusing and subjective, you need more pictures on the Peter Stastny jersey especially close ups of the tags, you have the right idea on full body pictures on the adidas hoodie and the jersey though just need some measurements, you might want to try white backgrounds for the ground shots such as a white sheet, nothing wrong with showing yourself modeling a used piece of clothing but never show yourself modeling a new with tags item.
