Stop Selling on eBay. Return Policy. Double Listing Fees.

I've been selling items on eBay stochastically for 10 years now. Recent selling experience has caused me to pull all of my listings.

eBay's new Buying system encourages customers to return items. Instead of having buyers simply push the "Leave Feedback" button, eBay has made it super easy for customers to return items - without paying for the return shipping. The "Leave Feedback" button has changed to "Return Item." An obvious way eBay can help sellers is by making it a little harder for Buying Customers to go through the process of returning an item. Instead, returning an item is clear as day for Buying Customers and the first button available after a sale.

Additionally as many Sellers know, eBay takes a transaction sum immediately after the sale AND a final value sum after the end of the month. This is ridiculous.

Thanks for clearing this up Fernwood. I understand now. I thought Paypal didn't take cuts from individual sellers but made most of their money off of major companies. I was wrong.

Initially Paypal used to advertise their services as "always free". That didn't last long.

I've had a Paypal account since 2000. Paypal is always free for the buyer. It is always free to receive personal payments or mass payments. It has never been free to receive payments for goods and services.

Paypal is not always free for personal non good and service payment if you are sending payment to a foreign country,if you look at their fee schedule, you will find out.

and I dont mean sending foreign currency.,thats an extra 3%.

Let's correct EBay to 10% + listing fees, if any.

PayPal to 2.9% or (4.5%)? currency exchange + $0.30 transaction fee.

I have to agree with one of the previous post,my return rate is  low as well ,so is shipment lost, even shipped overseas and I always use USPS.

If your return rate is higher than you expect, you may want to review your business model, some items are high risk, believe it or not,Paypal considers comics a high risk item based on the disputes filed.

Used electronics is also bad news, unless you are selling certified refurbished by professional, just flipping a switch and press a few keys and print a report may not be good enough.

Sometimes a seller just grab something because it is saleable on EBay without understanding what it is for and how to test it,like Easyjack, remember Easyjack, the seller got hold of a bunch and list them, she has no clue what they are for?

My neighbor recently  bought a musical device which will dock  iphone/an ipod nanno.

the seller has no way t o test ipod nanno as she does not have one to test .

Sometimes,a buyer thinks he has overpaid or think the item aint worth what he pays for,or just the way it was packed ( sanitary napkin or tampon box or torn walmart plastic bag)   ?or it comes from AMZN?

I dont know about AMZN,but Ebay is the worst place to sell for indvidual sellers

I have a no return policy.  It may cost me sales but it does weed out plenty of "renters" who wear items for a special occasion then return it for a refund and just maybe a buyer thinks twice before buying without doing homework.  I get very few returns* and I always respond that I will refund upon reciept of hte item back. Ninety percent of the time, the item never comes back.

*Obviously, if I make a mistake or the item gets damaged in shipping, I do a return but most of the time no.  I dont think it has harmed me in any way.

The problem is that even if you have a NO RETURNS policy, ebay still makes the Return This Item button prominent, so a buyer could care less about a seller's policy. Ebay could also care less and has no respect for any seller's policy, if they did, the Return button wouldn't appear so obvious when a seller states no returns.

Seller A has item for sale at 30.00 free shipping free returns 30 day returns, seller B has same item 30.00  no returns, 15 day handling time, disclaimer in their listing that if you buy from me you better not return it or you will be charged a restocking fee. Who is going to get the sale?

Seller A has item for sale at 50.00 with free shipping free returns, 30 day returns, Seller B has same item 30.00 , no returns , 1 day handling, restocking fee. Buyer may choose seller A even if it costs more.

In today's internet marketplaces it is difficult to sell with a no return policy. Not that people still wont buy it if it is cheap, but many have 0 tolerance for not being able to return something.

The prominent return this item button is there because people have gotten confused on how to start the return process. It is part of the ease of return issues that helps to attract more buyers.

My point is that if a seller doesn't offer returns, there isn't supposed to be a return process. Having the button there makes it look like a buyer can just ignore a seller's policy, which they obviously can. No returns listings, which aren't as described, are covered by the Money Back Guarantee. The button should be for that. If ebay isn't going to have respect for a seller's No Return Policy, then why bother to offer that option.

I have no returns, because I can't afford to foot the bill for simply any reason. If I've made an error or the item arrives damaged or not at all, I've always made things right with the buyer and never needed ebay to force my hand, from day one of my selling tenure here.

One EBay seller who sells new items put it this way,if you buy an item in store, whether it is defective or buyer remorse, you have t o go back to the store and return for full refund, the store is not going to send someone to your house.

But Ebay has many sellers, some dont know what they are selling, some misrepresent their items deliberately,so the punishment is to make them pickup return.

unfortunately some buyers abuse this return policy on all sellers.

This is true unless you have bought from China. Then you are out of luck. Then all of the advantages are in favor of the seller and not the buyer. The return shipping label is on the buyer. eBay favors the foreign sellers and penalizes U.S. sellers.

Unfortunately rixstuff, your return policy is negated by eBay's Buyer Protection Policy. If a Buyer returns an item labeled SNAD (Sale Not As Described), you will have to have the item returned and you will have to pay for the return shipping.

Yes I know this.  However, I can at least agree to the refund ONCE I GET THE ITEM BACK.  My experience is that 90% of the time, it DOESNT come back.  In other words, they were trying to get the item AND the refund but now find it not worth the effort.
