Why is there still no request total from seller button, on a mobile device? Can eBay come up with a good answer as to why we still have to have this problem?

Do you have a pay now option on the item you purchased?

Doesn't matter, neither buyers nor sellers want that, they want be able to request a total, have the seller make the necessary modifications and the buyer completes the transaction.
Without the request total function, buyer have to pay and wait for a refund and sellers have to pay more fees since the refund doesn't get any fees back from eBay.
It's bad enough that the Request Total isn't always available on the desktop, much worse every day since it's not ever been available on mobile which is where more and more transactions take place.

If you set up your store business policies correctly for combined shipping your buyers should never have to request a total from you. They just need to add the items to their shopping cart and the discount should be automatically applied. You can create different policies for different items. There is no limit on the number of policies you can have. Below is a link on how to create and manage your business policies.

Thanks for asking this question and bringing it back to light. I had just been looking this up the other day when one of my customers brought this fact to my attention. One of the older posts I read said that eBay was aware of the problem and trying to address it IN 2011, TEN years ago. Since they've started charging us .30 cents PER order, there is even less of an incentive to add that much needed "request total" button to the mobile devices app. Sigh, I'm not going to hold my breath for it.

That solution sometimes works for sellers of like items. For sellers with an eclectic assortment of sizes, weights, shipping classes, etc. it does not work.
eBay has removed the "commit to buy and continue shopping with this seller". That is only ONE reason why the whole 'request total' no longer works regardless of your device.

No, I don't have immediate payment set. The lack of a request total button frustrates buyers, and if eBay cared about buyers they would fix this.

This doesn't work when your items are less than 1 oz per item.
For example, if they purchase 10 items and eBay adds up, it will calculate shipping for 10 oz (at 1 oz a piece). However, when you actually prepare the package, since the items weigh less than an oz, it may still only be a 1 oz package and shipping will be incorrect.

Ebay is a very confusing site to buyers as on ebay purchasing an item and paying for that item are two separate actions on most eCommerce sites Items are not purchased until payment is made. As a result I get asked all the time by buyers to send them an invoice after we work out the details of a sale through messages. Then I have to explain to them that ebay doesn't allow me to just send an invoice that they have to purchase the items they want then I can adjust the shipping and send an invoice. I often have to just make a new listing of several items combined for them and send them the link.
I would love if ebay created some invoicing ability perhaps a simple form where I add the item numbers and the agreed on prices and the buyers user Id and the correct combined shipping and was able to just send this invoice to the buyer and that the items would be sold at the point the buyer paid the invoice.

This doesn't work if you buy different items from the same seller.

This thread is over a year old.
As we can see, there has been no improvement with this issue. Here is this month's:

Regardless, it's ridiculous that eBay thinks that this issue is just fine the way it is!

Simple answer is they probably have different teams working on mobile and desktop. Even then, the request total option kind of sucks. It's sort of hidden and can't use it if the thing is on sale and whatnot.
Personally, it'd be better if they had a way to treat it like offers where you have the option to 'buy it' and the seller can then send an invoice with the update shipping total. Basically making the purchase itself an offer. Otherwise, the buyer has to send offers for the various items or include a note or something asking to combine shipping. Or in a few cases, buyer can message seller what shipping would cost to whatever zip code.
Thankfully now that refunds are prorated, the latter is less of a math problem.

Glad to see this question asked! I have one seller I love to do business with, and I tend to make bulk purchases with him. It is INDEED frustrating to have to use/ borrow another device just to request a total. I use every chance to make comments in surveys to ask, beg, demand that this be fixed, but here we STILL are....
