I thought buyers were not allowed to leave a star rating on shipping time if your tracking information proves you shipped next day? I sold many items in Nov/Dec. Every single one of them was shipped same or next business day with shipping info automatically recorded since the labels were printed directly through ebay/paypal.
I have gotten 8 positive feedback so far out of 19 sales and one or more of them rated me low on shipping time.
There have been many times I have left FB for a seller where there was not even an option to rate the shipping time. Why does this apply to some but not all?

@zeedeejay The protection against a shipping defect affecting your Seller Dashboard is getting the Acceptence scan at the carrier's counter ... not when the label is printed. Getting the Acceptence scan within your handling time is what needs to happen.

As in the tracking showing acceptance on the same day it was dropped off?
I just checked the tracking for every sale I received feedback on, and all but one show the item accepted or in possession the same day I dropped it off, which is no more than 1 business day after the sale. Only exception is one that was purchased on a Friday night and I dropped it off on Saturday morning but tracking did not show it in their possession until Sunday.

Buyers are not able to rate the star if you offer free shipping. Otherwise it can be rated.

Yes as long as thats a day within your handling time. To be precise it needs to show a scan within your handling time. You have to midnight so even if your PO misses the acceptance you may get a scan at your regional facilty as long as its before midnight.

No problem with this one a friday purchase gives you till monday to ship with one day handling. Saturday is not a business day and does not count.

What is your stated handling time for your listings?
"Only exception is one that was purchased on a Friday night and I dropped it off on Saturday morning but tracking did not show it in their possession until Sunday."
This is not the reason. You have no worries here as you are not obligated to ship the item until Monday.
You have to offer FREE SHIPPING to remove the buyers ability to rate your shipping time.
Many buyers will give you a less than perfect rating for shipping time, because the shipping carrier that you choose to use was slower than expexted or eBay over-clocked your shipping carriers estimated delivery dates within your listing, giving the buyer an unreasonable expectation.
eBay's new Artifical Intelligence, the Hal 5000 eBot is in charge of that.

Only business days count. A Fri purchase with 1 day handling needs to be shipped and accepted by Mon midnight. So that one was not an exception - you were ok on that one too (you even beat the deadline by a day)

That is required but not sufficient. In order to get the automatic "5" for shipping time, your tracking must also show delivery within 4 business days.

Stars no longer count for seller performance, but there is an on-time shipping metric.

I apologize zeedeejay part of my statement in post #6 was incorrect.
"You have to offer FREE SHIPPING to remove the buyers ability to rate your shipping time." cost
And shipping cost FREE or otherwise is not relevant to your original question or this conversation, I apologize for the bad information, or for any confusion that this may have caused you.

It's pretty hard to answer your questions without being able to see your info under your selling ID and your TOS in your listings.

That's often true. But in this case, the OP was just asking for clarification of eBay's criteria for getting an automatic 5 for shipping time.
12-24-2017 05:12 AM
OP's concern was that he printed his labels and the tracking numbers were entered on the same or next day. That doesn't prove shipping as ebay requires a acceptance scan within his stated shipping/handling time. I purchased an item not long ago where the seller printed the label on Friday~~the same day I purchased BUT tracking showed it as picked up by USPS the following Friday and I finally received it the following Wednesday. Did he think that printing the label would save him from getting a late shipping defect?
OP~~What does your dashboard say as to your shipping on time? That's what you need to worry about.

Actually, do sellers get any automatic 5 stars on anything but shipping cost~~then only if they offer free shipping? It used to be that sellers got automatic 5's if they did NOT communicate with their buyers but I have the option to rate communication on my sellers even though there was no communication.
I never left feedback for the seller that didn't ship for a week but I just checked and I have the option to rate him on shipping even though under shipping time it says "Shipped on Nov. 6"~~the Monday after the Friday sale even though tracking says it wasn't shipped until Nov. 10. I also had the option to rate him on communication even though there was no communication. Then, of course, I had the option to rate him on item as described. Shipping was free so there was no option to rate shipping charges. So, is there even an automatic 5 stars on shipping time anymore?

The auto-5 for shipping time is based on (1) tracking upload and (2) delivery scan. A package that was shipped 4 business days after tracking upload is not going to meet the auto-5 requirement for delivery within 4 business days of payment. The DSRs were set up before eBay developed an interest in the timing of acceptance scans.
The new feedback form does seem to let buyers rate communications in every case.
