Once again, my apologies to all for posting what had already been posted. There is a definite LAG, because when I posted most of the replies were not showing -- and I will swear to that in a court of law. Sigh.
Not stupid. Spanish is the predominate language spoken in South America but not by much it is about even with Portuguese. There are a few other languages including English, German and Italian. There were a lot of different explorers including Columbus and Vespucci among others, that first explored South America leading to an influx of different European languages. Ironically most of them got there by mistake and had no clue where they really were.
