Some people have no class...

So I'm sending out offers to buyers, and I made a mistake with one of them. It was pretty obvious that it was a mistake, 80% off a silver coins (so basically the buyer is getting an ounce of silver for $5, you'd have to be visiting from Mars to not realize I didn't do that on purpose).

That's all fine, I made a mistake, I'll honour the sale, no problem. I tell myself I will never learn from my mistakes if I keep bailing myself out of trouble with excuses and rationalizations.

So the buyer accepted the offer... but THEN... he writes a long "rant" type of eBay message telling me how wonderful I am, how much I must appreciate him as a customer (he's never bought from me before), how it's the greatest gift he ever got, what a generous person I am, and how he'll treasure the coin forever. (Insert finger into mouth right about now...)

OK, I get it that I made a mistake, the buyer accepted the offer, and not shipping can mean bad feedback or worse, a defect.

There's no need to write all of that knowing I made a mistake and probably feel pretty bad about letting a $27 coin go for $5... Just pay for the coin and shut your mouth. None of that noise was going to change how I proceeded with the sale after he paid.

I figured the loss of $22 is a manageable error... it was quite obvious that it was a mistake, and I'm sure the buyer knew that too. I can live with him buying the coin and shipping it, but I don't need my nose rubbed in the fact I messed up in the process.

I once sent a way too low offer, I meant to send 10 percent off, but instead sent $10 on something worth hundreds. Luckily I was able to end the listing about 45 second later.

Maybe the buyer was just real happy that you sent an offer that was so low - you know it was a mistake, maybe he thought it was a special offer you do from time to time and he was the prospective buyer who was chosen this time, who knows?

But not sure I would jump  right to the neagative conclusion that they are rubbing your nose in it...... just sayin'

I have to admit I might be a little too tempted to be snarky with this buyer.  I know it isn't right, but if I wouldn't talk myself out of it first I might send something like.

Yes I am a mere human and I made a mistake.  When that happens I own it, make the best of it and try to do the right thing.  It was my mistake after all and you will get to benefit from it.  Thank you for being so kind and understanding.

Well, yeah, we get nutty buyers sometimes.  I once accidentally sold an expensive jacket for 99 cents, nutty buyer was over the moon - I felt stupid but, well, life is often like that.
