Sold an item returned to old address

So I had a card that was PSAed and sold to a buyer.  It was shipped to the authentication partner who said they don’t authenticate autographs but the card is authentic.  The buyer submitted it to Beckett because he thinks they are more reliable. Beckett said while it could be real they could not authenticate for sure. It gets sent back to eBay authentication. After sitting on this for a couple of weeks I get a message saying they have shipped the card back to me.  At my old address which was changed off eBay more than six months ago.  The car was sold 45 days ago.  The card will end up at the old address and not be forwarded to me. Now what? They gave me a chargeback. It’s a $3000 plus item.

Are you sure your return address was changed?

I've done it by accident on some low items I wrote off, but I've never had issues with return addresses unless It was my fault.

Why will it not be forwarded to you?
The letter carrier will deliver it because the address is the important thing, not the name.

Can you contact the new tenants, explain the problem *, and ask that it be sent /forwarded to your new address.

Tell them you will pay for their costs. And do.

Also-

The phone reps have a terrible reputation for getting you off the phone as soon as possible even if that means giving you the advice you want to hear instead of the advice you need to have.

So the buyer got the card and then He shipped it to Beckett?  How did Beckett get your old address?   Why didn't Becket send it back to him?  I would contact ebay via Facebook.  If the buyer sent the card to Becket ,  to me , he lost is MBG.  Something  doesn't sound right here.  Did buyer open an item not described case?   I also thought that cards were not subject to item not described cases after being authenticated.  You need to contact Ebay at facebook rightaway.  Go there and click MESSAGE (Messenger) and explain your situation.  Everything you write will be through Messenger and the conversation will be private.  None of your friends or family will know that you reached out to Ebay.

@dqdistribution

Not sure of USPS, but Canada Post not only charges for Change of Address services, the service is only good for three months although it can be renewed.

And the question of forwarding parcels , as opposed to LetterMail, is unclear.

Still, given the value, I would assume that everyone was using Priority Mailing. So the situation is even more complex.

In my opinion, your responsibility may have ended when the customer received the certified card (with uncertified autograph) and sent it on to Beckett.

Beckett is responsible to your customer when they did not send it to him (who was I assume paying them and from whom they received the card -- not eBay Authentication).

I'm not sure that you are in any way responsible after the (authenticated!) card was returned to the buyer by eBay Authentication.

Talk to Chat reps. Not on the phone.

You NEED that transcript of the conversation.

You need to get in touch with the Post Office at your old address and put an intercept on that card. Hopefully you have access to the tracking information on the return.

Sorry maybe I'm not understanding.

The address you return to is the one on the return center inside ebay when you open a return.

The return address on the label is meaningless, unless it's return to sender.

I don't even understand how they got the old address.

In USA change of address is only for prior but where did they get this old address from?

I may be wrong but I would have thought the original authenticator would have passed on to the buyer.

Now I'm thinking if it was a paypal chargeback they would use whatever they have on file. Regardless of what was on eBay.

Maybe that is where they got the old address.

Chargebacks wiry CC might allow return to address on label but he said he changed it 6 months ago so the landless on the label should be the new one so that wouldn't make sense.

No, sent back to Ebay authentication based on OP statement. Who sent it back to Ebay is one of the questions.

How did Ebay authentication get involved? The buyer took possession of the card I assume by Ebay non-authentication group. Beckett can't authenticate it either, so someone sends it back to Ebay non-authentication group. So, at this point there are missing explanations in this description.

Several weeks later you receive correspondence from the Ebay non-authentication group that the card was shipped back to you but it's the wrong address?

First of all, again why would someone sell a $3000 item on a platform? It's nothing but issue after issue we see on high ticket items. Somewhere your address was not updated nor removed thus the shipment to your old address occurred. Basically, unfortunately you are not in a positive situation.

In order to have Beckett certify a card someone has to pay $. I assume your buyer paid $ for the certification? Based on your comments the buyer is off the hook. Fully do not understand why or what ability Ebay has in the authentication process of cards but why would Ebay send the card to a buyer and not be able to authenticate? All I can say here, it's a mess based on the OP statements.
