Sold an item. Someone who had not accepted my offer is asking how much it sold for

I received an offer for an item.

I submitted a counter offer that was good for a 24 hour + period of time.
Shortly thereafter I received another offer from someone else and accepted that offer.

I called eBay to confirm it was ok to accept the second offer even tho the first buyer still had time to accept my counteroffer.

eBay confirmed that was ok.

The first buyer was disappointed and asked me how much the item sold for.
Am I required to disclose that information?

Thank you for any guidance provided.

I disagree. What would have been unethical is if the buyer had accepted the seller's counteroffer but then had the offer canceled after the seller received a better offer.

You do not need to disclose the amount but it was actually unethical for you to not wait the 24 hours the other person had to accept the offer. Next time you give someone an offer please hold to your commitment before allowing someone else to snag it.

No, I see it exactly the same as someone lists something at $125 OBO on Craigslist, you tell the seller you will be right there with the money.

By the time you get there with the $125 the seller has already sold it for $100.

It's his item he can choose to sell it to the first buyer that shows up with cash in hand if he chooses to.

I mean, if he told me "I will hold it for exactly 1 hour" and I was there within the hour I would be upset.  But it's his item until he takes my money.  Nothing much I can do.

No, you are not required to disclose that information.

No, the seller is not obligated to wait the 24 hours for the buyer’s response. First one to respond to the offer gets it since the seller can send the same offer to multiple people.

They didn't buy it, someone else bought it. You can ignore them, or tell them none of their business. You can even tell them that you sold it far less than you offered them to pisss them off.

You snooze you lose.

Seller is not obligated to wait for a response when they send an offer or counteroffer. Someone came along an offered a price that the seller was comfortable with.

I would not even entertain answering the question the person who lost about what it sold for.

note to the O.P.: I have no idea what your item sold for and don't care, but I see you look like an early new seller selling some expensive items. That makes you a target.

Are you shipping through eBay authentication process, signature required, with insurance, or entertain pick-up only at local police station. Buyer pays then in real currency.

Of course not.

If eBay wanted that information disclosed, they would just make it available.

Does the price someone else

paid on ebay, determine what a item is actually worth ?

How about when the person who submitted a offer latter sees the seller list that item with it's buy now price at far under the offer price which had been declined ?

Item pricing on ebay appears far from being a science

An offer is not a commitment. The OP did nothing unethical. As mentioned upthread, eBay even puts a warning on the message that conveys the offer: The first accepted offer/counteroffer wins the item.

That is your thought but I stand by what I said. It is like a handshake in business. You allow a buyer to buy item X and give them 24 hours as you stated. You don't renege in the middle of the process.

Another example of a totally unethical person. I bet when that person came back with the $$ they where very upset.

So I have an item listed for $100 BIN with immediate payment, or best offer.  Someone sends me a best offer for $85 and I counter offer for $90.  That counter is good for 24 hours.  2 hours after my counter, someone buys the item at full price and pays immediately.   How is that unethical on my part?  The person making the offer didn't pay before someone else bought it.  I have no control over this.

The OP did not have the scenario you described. They gave an offer then decided to not wait for the buyer to respond.

IMHO the "handshake" happens not when the seller sends the offer, but when the buyer accepts it. When the seller sends the offer, he is extending his hand, waiting for the buyer to shake it.

The one you sold yesterday for $745 with free shipping?

See how easily I found that?

The first person that buys it gets it.  That is how this works.

I just now received an offer & I copied right from the page ...

In ebay's words:

You received an offer.

Other buyers may have received this offer. The first to accept gets the deal.

If you wait the 24 hours for someone to decide, you may be waiting for a sale that will never come.  You take the one in hand.  That's how this was intended to work.

Although I answer almost question I receive, I don't think I would answer this one back about the price.  It's rather snoopy of that person to ask.   And as mentioned, it's NOT disclosed by ebay.
