So two and a half weeks ago I sold a graphics card which was in v good condition since I barely used it. Yesterday I received a return claim from a buyer (doesn’t work or is defective). The issue is that buyer confirms the card was working fine for 2 weeks and they “even changed the thermal paste” which clearly means they disassembled it as well. I know I would probably have to still accept the return due to eBay’s stupid terms but just wanted to know if the two facts above change anything.
Thanks,
M

Unfortunately not. It doesn't matter what the facts are, you could of even had a video for the last year from the time you purchased all while you used it just to prove it worked and eBay will still force you to either accept your just refund. When I was selling electronics I have had all kinds of crap happen and I've tried everything in the book to combat it. Videos in my listings, describing every single detail, video my shipping process etc... Every time a buyer opened a return I was burned regardless of anything I had. This is why I don't sell electronics anymore or expensive items in general.

Nope, doesn't change a thing - He said/She said - seller loses.
Sorry about that.

You will have to accept the return and then argue with Ebay that the buyer altered the item. You might actually win the argument if the buyer noted the alteration in a message. But in all likelihood you will have to eat the loss as countless others have done when selling graphics cards. Just search this forum for "graphics card" to understand the odds of being scammed on these items.

Not only you will have to pay for the return shipping. The returned graphics card is most-likely damaged by the buyer. Good luck if you ever get the graphic card back, (empty box return are very common these days in ebay) so as soon as the tracking number shows the package being delivered by the label paid by you, ebay will automatically refund the buyer. That is how it works. As soon as you see a return request, you know instantly that you are most likely dealing with a dishonest buyer. I have been selling in ebay for more than 10 years, and this happened to me countless. Never get my money back even after posting a complaint in BBB.

You will have to accept the return and refund once you receive it back, but keep this correspondence "The issue is that buyer confirms the card was working fine for 2 weeks and they “even changed the thermal paste” which clearly means they disassembled it as well."
You can use that when you appeal the decision to eBay citing "Not returned in its original condition"

How is everything going? What is the update? I am sure you are F and KED now. That is why I don't sell in ebay anymore, a very disgusting place. Even if the graphics card is not damaged, you still have to pay shipping both ways even if you didn't select that I offer free return button.

That NEVER works for me, even tho I have legitimate problems when something happens.
