Hello everyone and thank you for your time reading my situation.
I’ve sold an item today, designer purse that’s brand new for 1700$. I’ve sold expensive items here before and never even thought of getting scammed but this time I received a message shortly after the sale BUT from a different account asking me if I could ship it to their home address instead. And it was a different name, different state. The account was created today. Then I checked the buyer and it was the same, account created today. Is it weird? I always thought there is ebay protection in cases like this but the more I was reading the more scared I am to ship the item now.
It was a buy now item so I thought the timing from a different account with the scam address was weird. Would you cancel the sale?
Thank you

but there is always the possibility of being scammed with high prices items unless you sell under the authentic guarantee program for luxury handbags. It is just part of the business.

Of course I’m not considering shipping it to the new address but I’m thinking it could be the same person? Both accounts created today?

Nicely inform the buyer that eBay requires that you ship to the address provided at time of purchase. And give them the option to cancel if they are not agreeable to this.

0 feedback $1700 purchase. Cancel and relist.

Also DON'T FORGET - to send the item with Signature Required. Ebay requires that on any item over $750.00 for your seller protection! https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/member-behavior-policies/signature-confirmation-policy?id=5154

Respond to your buyer that you can only ship to the address on file with EBay. If they want it shipped to the different address, they need to change their address on file. And don’t forget to insure your shipment and get signature confirmation.

I have had this happen to multiple times. I am a luxury handbag seller as well. It is definitely a scam!! Don’t listen to the person messaging you saying ship it to this address instead. The buyer who actually bought the item may be legit and they have no idea who the other person messaging you is.

I'd be careful here. All advice gives so far is good. However, there exists the likelihood that even if the item is delivered to the address on file something could happen afterwards like they open an INAD and seek a refund and then send back an empty box or later start a chargeback after the eBay dispute timeframes have past.
If they had been around for a while and then made the purchase, I'd be less suspicious. But registering and making a $1700 purchase in the same day is a red flag. You could cancel and give the reason problem with address.

That is not necessarily true. I have had many eBayers just open their accounts and buy from me all the time. Thousands of dollars worth of items. They saw the bags that I sell on google and decided to create an account and buy from me. I have that happen almost on a weekly basis and these buyers are legit!

You're basically a new seller with a $1700 item, selling to a 0 feedback buyer. You're primed to get scammed. I wish you luck if you go through with the transaction.

According to the OP, the buyer in this case is not the one making the request; it's a scammer who is hoping that the seller will not notice that the change-of-address request is not coming from the buyer ID. These requests tend to be automatically generated to as many sellers as possible before eBay discovers it and shuts down the throwaway account. The targeted sellers are found by doing periodic Sold Item searches in high-scam categories, designer purses being one of those.
As for the actual buyer also signing up today, that alone is not a scam sign. I would say a large percentage of buyers make a purchase on their first day, since you don't need an account just to browse. I know you can buy as a guest now, but signing up when you want to buy something is the usual method. I bought something on my first day here. (Did you?)
All that aside, a $1700 purse sale from a new-seller account is a definite scammer magnet for all kinds of ripoffs, including such post-delivery scams as fake-damage claims and empty-box claims. Best to sell something like that as a Local Pickup Only, for cash.

15 years ago I sold a camera system for $9500. Today if you don't have 10 or more positive feed backs I would never sell to them. A $1700 to a new buyer? Nope never, the return policy is in the hands of scammers these days.

Thank you everyone for your valuable input. I appreciate you taking to time to advice me. I never even think of that before and think I was lucky but the scam email with the change of address made me worried. Maybe it’s just a bad coincidence that both the seller and scammer accounts were created that day, but I have decided to cancel the transaction.
Anyway very strange that USA ebay always favors the buyer. I once bought a fake LV on Ebay germany and my case was closed immediately😄 I had to chase the seller down myself to get a refund.

Is there a reason you did not sell this through the Handbag program?
