I see you have been selling on Ebay since March of 1998 which is terrific. Something tells me that you will return to selling here in future once you have gotten over your upset and maybe remembered that Paypal has your Social Security number as well.

No, because that would ruin the narrative.

Chicagoseller, I understand your concern. Many are responding on these threads like they know exactly what you've provided in the past. I, like you, have NEVER provided my SSN to Paypal. It didn't require it back then. A few years ago Paypal changed and would not let me leave money in there as an interim account without providing my SSN. So I just let them work directly back and forth to my credit card and bank accounts, which they allowed without having my SSN.

In these days of colossal financial risk due to identity theft, most places are moving away from asking for an SSN if not absolutely necessary. eBay does not have sound I.T. security and related processes. I don't trust them with this key information.

I think I will be leaving ebay as well.   I don't wish to give the ss# and have never given it to paypal either, despite what some are saying here.    Because of a breach years ago with my healthcare insurance someone claimed a tax refund because they had my info.   I do not trust ebay's security.  I also am sick of the constant changes in format and the constant suggestions.  None of it is helpful.  I put enough info and people know what they want to buy.  Ebay could cut expenses by getting rid of the people who spend time coming up with ideas of how to change things.   Their time of being on top is over.  There's competition out there and by always trying to make it harder for sellers isn't making sellers want to stay here.  I know that in the past when sellers were upset they came back.  This time it may not work.  I almost feel the "suggestions in your face" are worse than the pushing for private information.  I will be donating charity or using the other options for selling that are available to me.    I've had enough of ebay!

Necro thread...but just so you'll know, the OP is still selling.

These rants would be more believable if people didn't still have items listed.

If you're not going to sign up, you might want to end your listings before anything sells, since you've been switched over to Managed Payments.

Have a great day.
