So frustrated with eBay customer service

It appears eBay has outsourced most if not all of their CS agents to the Philippines & other overseas call centers, and while they're generally nice & friendly, they have no power to do anything.

Whether it's adjusting invoices, appealing cases/disputes, removing negative feedback/defects, etc. they can only open a service request on your behalf, not act on it themselves over the phone.  Then some back office appeals specialist, if they respond to your SR at all, makes a final decision, which in most cases is more favorable to eBay than the phone agents would lead you to believe.

For example, I recently requested an invoice adjustment.  I did some calculations, and the CS phone agent did his own calculations, and we arrived at the same number.  CS agent opens SR for back office to adjust invoice by $X & back office responded a few days later, saying the proposed adjustment was denied.

I've asked for CS supervisors and they tell me the same thing:  anyone with real power is in the back office & doesn't take phone calls.

I've wasted hours of time on phone calls that went nowhere.  Have any of you encountered the same?  Is there any workaround?  Do you know if  this new CS structure was done for COVID reasons or is it permanent?  Thanks.

Agree, you really want to see a nightmare, visit the DMV in Nevada and don't even attempt to buy a new car here, 2 month wait.

I'm afraid companies are going to milk this thing for all it's worth.

For the "average" seller - this is not something "new".

My only advice is to keep trying.  Sometimes it takes a few swings to get the right person.  Good luck!

Ontario MOT (DMV for us) is still basically closed. I went to renew my plates during the current lockdown and there was only a couple of people there doing stuff that couldn't wait. I was told that I didn't need to renew my plates and could just drive with expired ones until our Premier announces that we need to get this done (which the MOT agents said will cause a mad rush, but this has gone on over a year that people haven't need to renew any documents).

I don't want to be part of a mad rush under the threat of a $400 fine for having expired plates, so I paid the $240 for the 24 month renewal.

Since it's been over a year and I'm seeing lots of expired plates on the road, I really hope when they do tell everyone it's time to pay that they retroactively go back and charge for all the time they were driving around with expired plates. Why should it cost me money because I was responsible? (FWIW, you can get them renewed online and a sticker sent, but I was unable to do this so I had to go in person). Most of my friends renewed online to avoid the situation of everyone going in person. (Oh yeah, when they're expired, you MUST show up in person with all your documents for a renewal, which indicates crazy wait times there in the forthcoming future).

You also have to be well versed at winning an argument without getting upset, raising your voice, cursing, or doing anything else that CSRs would find socially unacceptable.

You need to know your argument and what you're going to say when you call. It's almost like a game of chess... anticipate the replies and have a come back ready to argue that. My favourite line from a CSR was "I can't remove the feedback because it's not on my list", to which I replied "think about it, he's on my BBL and shouldn't be buying, he circumvented my BBL and I cancelled the transaction. He shouldn't be buying at all so he shouldn't be able to leave feedback either." The agent consulted someone and removed the feedback.

Someone made it in the news for a $400 fine for expired plates, but the MOT said no fines should be given.

But what I was getting at, is that Ford will announce that it's time to renew all those plates creating a made rush, a short grace period, followed by enforcement.

You don't have to renew your driver's license either (my partner didn't get a notice and it expired and he didn't notice until he showed it as ID somewhere). He went to renew it and they told him he didn't have to. I work in liability insurance and it doesn't matter what the MOT says you're allowed to do, if we don't see a valid driver's license for the time of your claim, we deny the claim. A vehicle registration sticker doesn't matter for insurance.

This is so off topic, but the Ontario government will charge for the year retroactively. If you haven't renewed you don't have to right away once they open. You can just pay double the following year when you get your next sticker. That's what I'm doing.

Possible csr counter argument

Although he shouldn't be buying, unfortunately the fact is he did, entitling him to leave feedback

You can't renew your tags online or by mail? We renew ours by mail every year. We even get our new plate mailed to us when they change them up (every five years).  The only time we ever go to the courthouse to get tags is if we get another vehicle.  Gotta do that in person. (Never, ever go anytime during the last week of the month. If you do, pack a lunch...and dinner, too.)

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

I love it when i luck out and get a US based customer service agent.

The difference in service is like night and day.

I wish ebay would use BOTH overseas call centers AND US based customer service agents.

Overseas call centers for common "how to" questions and US based agents for more complicated issues.

Wouldn't that be great?
