Every time I get one of these messages from eBay I have to laugh. eBay hurts small sellers way more than any tax ever would. With eBay's constant changes to the selling platform, horrible search engine algorithm, extremely slow and overloaded listing tools, dire need to micromanage everyones accounts, and interference with most aspects of a sale right down to the payment method, their algorithm punishment of sellers and their listings that don't follow eBay's list of listing best practices, and least not forget eBay's obsession for driving traffic. So what's a little tax going too hurt?
Plus you need to make a sale on this site first, before you get taxed anyway. I very much doubt that sellers would be required to pay a state sales tax on a random eBay sale here or there. However, I could see a venue like eBay instead, having to collect the tax at the point of sale, and having to forward it to each state quarterly. This may create issues in regards to FVF's and returns, etc. Also more trust issues among Sellers/Buyers and eBay.

Ebay is looking out for their best interests.

I had the same observation - a single digit tax will hurt, but eBay's return policy that takes all my money, profit, and with shipping fees produces a negative return ... and often gives away that which I paid for is far worse. Hope the tax laws kills eBay so a new entity can emerge.

It's too bad that sellers really aren't in eBay's best interest. eBay really knows that any tax will create more work or eBay, and help the B&M businesses in some states compete better with online venues. Which hurts eBay's bottom line with new products.

Government isn't going to let them collect FVF on tax payments, I'm sure they're REALLY opposed to this!

Small sellers could not handle dealing with 3800 sale's tax local's . Unlike amazon Ebay doesn't have fisecal presents Nexus required to collect from the buyer . it would cost ebay a lot money to setup sale's tax collecting .Money ebay doesn't want to spend.

I'm OK with charging taxes. plus most of my business is done offline so I pay them anyway. It's not going to hurt any of my eBay sales since all my eBay accounts have mysteriously gotten really no sales in months now. All of 2018 on eBay has been pretty dead for me. Though I did...more than make up for the loss with a nice growth in sales elsewhere, and 2018 got busier sooner than normal for me with both online and offline sales.

eBay would still try to get away with it if they could.
