Hi. Hoping an eBay savvy member can help me.  I’ve been negotiating a sale with a customer in Canada (I’m in the US). I tried to change my listing to local pickup but the eBay system wouldn’t let me offer that to someone out of the country. I live 3 miles from the Canadian border and she lives right on the other side.  The only way I could get the sale through was to charge her $1 shipping to Canada (it wouldn’t give me a free shipping option). She paid and wants to pick it up but I can’t find any way to show proof in the eBay system. It’s an expensive Waterford chandelier so I want to make sure there’s proof of delivery. Any ideas??? Thanks!

When you create local pickup in your listing, Ebay gives the buyer a code which you can scan or enter to prove delivery. Since its an international sale ebay will not allow local up as an option.

Here are your options.

1. Have your buyer pickup as you have negotiated. Have the buyer pinky swear that she will not open a false item not received case. which you will loose because you can not provide tracking. If your funds are being held wait the 30 days till funds are released.

2.  Send an envelope with tracking to the buyer's address to prove delivery. Have the buyer pinky swear that they will not open a INR or SNAD

3. Cancel the sale and move on.

You could have asked the buyer to temporarily change their primary shipping address to one in the USA. That might have made it possible for the buyer to purchase if you sent them an invoice with local pickup as the option.

However, you didn't list it with local pickup so that might not have worked. And if the buyer has already paid, then it's too late now. There's no way to get a QR code or 6-digit code for local pickup.

I few years ago, I made a purchase where I was in the opposite situation. I was the buyer, and I wanted to pick up some purchases in Canada. The seller had listed them on eBay.com, with local pickup available only in the USA (by mistake). But I was buying them in Canada, and I didn't want to have to pay sales tax in the USA. So, the only options were "local pickup" with US sales tax, or pay with my Canadian address, with shipping and no sales tax. We worked it out in the end, thanks to trusting each other.

The seller ended up sending me an invoice with free shipping to my Canadian address, I paid, and then she patiently waited over 2 weeks while I went through quarantine before I was allowed to go anywhere outside my home in Canada. After the 2 weeks, I drove a couple of hours to pick them up, and the transaction was great.

You could consider doing something like that.
