Buyer won an auction on Sunday, paid and then sent me a PM asking me to ship to a different address. Same town (in USA), experienced buyer with multiple feedbacks and in a non-high fraud category- used cookwear.
Sent buyer a return PM, asking them to correct their address and have not heard back 12+ hours later.
What am I risking by shipping to another address, if I have a PM from them asking me to do so?
I’m torn on what to do here, esp since they haven’t responded.
Thoughts?

You would have to refund their paypal payment before they can correct their address. Once corrected, you can ship without worry.
Shipping to a different address voids your seller protection.

If you ship to a different address you loose all your protection.
Only ship to the verified address.

This is correct: After you refund the payment, the Pay Now button reappears, and your buyer can go through eBay Checkout again, this time selecting or adding the desired shipping address on the checkout page, and then pay again.

This happened to me once. Buyer paid and then sent a message requesting I ship to another address. After asking for and receiving advice from this seller board, I messaged back that they would have to change their address in PayPal first. Can't remember if I had to refund first or not. (Probably did.)
Anyway, the buyer happily complied and all went well. Just remember to always ship to the address in PayPal and make sure (if you print your labels on eBay) that both addresses match.

Personally I would ship either of the 2 items you sold on Sunday anywhere a buyer asked. The odds of needing seller protection is slim to none, well within my comfort range.

I agree - for low value items I don't make a big deal about it as often times people move and forget to change their ship to address in Paypal and Ebay. If you want to keep your seller protection - tell them you have to cancel the transaction - choose problem with buyer address - let them change the address and repurchase the item. The problem is sometimes the buyer doesn't want all the hassle and will purchase elsewhere.

Possibly not; I had the same thing happen to me this weekend.
When I refunded the payment, it remained showing paid on EBay. I had to copy buyer’s email from the transaction details and send a manual request for payment.
But it’s not that simple - she had corrected her address but not VERIFIED it.
At which point I decided I was done jumping through hoops for a $35 item and shipped anyway. 😂
