Why is it ebay can dictate shipping. Third time this month I was not offered Media mail for books, just because they weren't listed in the book category. They're books ebay, when are you going to realize some books don't work in the book category and with all the useless information that has to be entered in that category on the listing form, I don't and won't use it. Takes 3 times longer to list in that category than it used to, its you losing out. And if you don't print labels, seller gets demoted, real fair. Ebay is totally discriminatory.

Kind of like the driver who got the ticket for driving on a one-way street. He explained that he was only going one-way and nobody else was using it and it would have taken 3 times longer to go around the block. I mean, just because the arrow was pointing the wrong way, .....

Apparently eBay has decided that they would prefer to slightly inconvenience a few sellers, instead of contributing to the massive abuse of Media Mail shipping rates. For once, that's good corporate citizenship.

But are they?? Do the magazine sellers run into problems choosing Media Mail? Or do they get a "pass" because Magazines is under Books?
eBay seems to be going around their elbow to get to their behind with this Media Mail problem. I'm still waiting for that question in the spring seller update board to be answered! LOL

Well, that's probably their superpower.

You refuse to list in the books category and are upset you're not allowed to use media mail? Good grief!

Can you expand on the assertion that eBay demotes sellers that don't "print labels?" From my understanding, you do need to enter tracking information and ship in a timely manner, but eBay doesn't cajole you into buying labels through their service.
A seller being late with uploading tracking information absolutely should result in a ding to ratings.
eBay isn't being discriminatory. There is no protected class for sellers that don't want to buy labels through eBay or list books in the "books" category.

Because it is their site.

You seem to be suggesting that a seller's only two options are to list in a different category or not be able to print a label. If so, you are presenting a false dilemma.
The seller can print the media mail label through any number of other sites (USPS, PayPal shipping, stamps.com., etc.) and then enter the tracking number into eBay.

I have to wonder if the two adult magazines you have listed are the items you're pitching the hissy over.

There should not be concern over shipping magazines because they can't be shipped by Media Mail.
I wonder if part of the process is to try to get sellers to put all their books in the Book categories because those categories charge a higher final value fee?

There are sections under collectibles that have a subcategory of >books, manuals, but media mail isn't offered here either. Stupidity. EBay set up the category and has a separate subcategory for books that should be shipped media mail, but it isn't accepted.

I just chcked my paypal ship now and they offer media mail.......it only takes a second to bring them up.

Many people are abusing media mail, this is a FACT. Comic books with ads, are NOT media mail, neither are magazines. That eBay makes it harder for some sellers to steal from USPS, I think it's great. Even in categories that I sell items that qualify for media mail, but eBay doesn't offer it, I still get the media mail label by other means.
If a seller doesn't know what they are doing, they need to get educated or pay the "tax".

"You refuse to list in the books category and are upset you're not allowed to use media mail"
There are categories that specifically include books and manuals, that media mail is perfectly legal to use, but eBay shipping will not allow it as an option. This is an actual eBay problem.
