Service Metrics Video Q&A

Great, I don't have a problem with the concept, but they need to have a way to dispute it when a buyer lies about the reason for their return.  I have three buyers who lied about their return reason (they said in the return that the item didn't fit, but the reason they chose was "Not As Described").  Those pushed me into a "Very High" rating, which is going to cost me hundreds of dollars in fees next month.

edit: Not to mention the "peer" averages that are impossibly low in some categories.  One seller even showed that the suppose "peer average" in his category was more than twice as good as the manufacturer's defect rate for the items he sold.  And I still haven't seen anyone who sells used clothing who doesn't have a "High" or "Very High" rating.  Are we being lumped in with people who sell BRAND NEW clothing, which is the vast majority of clothing sales on ebay?

In the video and on the help pages it's specified that one of the factors in determining peers is a similar average item condition (ie: new vs used) so they would not compare you to someone who sells all new clothing.

A friend of mine sells preowned clothing. Her rating for the 2 month lookback is 0% and the average of her peers is 0.52% - she doesn't have visibility to what percent is considered very high but she thinks it's currently about 1.5%.

Looking at the projected rate for next month she said the peer average is projected to go down to 0.47% so the number is always fluctuating.

Your numbers will differ based on a peer group that shares your average selling price, delivery estimates and other factors.

Your average will definitely change over time. Right now it's looking back on a very short window, but when it expands to the full 12 months you may find your % to be low if September is your only high month.

My friend said if they started with a 12 month lookback her rate would be .48%.

Thanks for the video. I never go to UTube lol. eBay USA should hire this guy to do one for here. Simple, clean, not a lot of gibberish like when we have to view those weekly video chat thingys. All I can say, great presentation. But I did not hear for just how long this 4% for your category would go on for? Meaning, you keep paying the additional 4% forever? Unless I missed that. In addition, I know he discussed you can still be TRS and have this seller metric thing which will not affect that. But...would it put non-TRS people "below standard"? Sorry if I sound stupid, but I am when it comes to these metrics.

You missed it. Your rate goes back down when your metrics show you're no longer in the very high range of the affected category.

This info was left out of the video:

You will only experience [higher fees in any affected category] if you have at least ten requests in the line of business and your "item not described" rate is greater than 1 percent.

No, that would be impossible to be Top Rated and Below Standard at the same time. The service metrics are separate from seller performance standards. Performance standards aren't changing.
