Sent Buyer Real Watch They Are Trying To Return A Fake.

I shipped the buyer a real Audemars Piguet watch. The watch has been delivered to them now they are claiming the watch is fake. This is a huge scam I am very worried I will lose out on my watch and money. The buyer is requesting to return item but I will not accept a fake watch when I sent them the real thing and lose out. What do I do in this situation??

I don't understand. After you sold it, you listed it again to get more views? For what? What do more views do for you? What if someone had bought it, what would you do? Send what? Cancel the order?

While there are indeed scammers on eBay, people who spend $18,000 on watches are rarely scammers. They are rich guys with money to burn and the first thing they probably did was take it to a watch store to be authenticated. Do you have the receipt for the watch? You say it was authenticated. By whom? Can you provide the authentication to eBay?

I just put it under jewelry now I am in the wrong why would I try to rip someone of then come to the forum makes no sense..

     I did not say you were in the wrong the red flag is a danger warning that can be applied with regards to either party to an issue. As the seller the red flag is the fact that you did not use the authentication process and were subjected to the potential scam.

     From the buyers perspective the same red flag would apply. Why would a seller list an $18K watch and NOT use the authentication process.

I know you guys are no serious right now?

     Depends on which response you are talking about. My response about your course of action in responding to the buyer claim was totally serious. If you do nothing within your allotted timeline in responding to the buyers claim then in 4 days the buyer can ask eBay to step in refund the buyer and probably allow the buyer to keep the item.

you just ended the listing for the exact same watch a few minutes ago.  So I can only assume the watch is in your possession and the customer must have gotten the fake one.

Yep, the buyer saw the same exact thing listed again and realized he had probably bought a replica watch which will be sold several times. Had the OP not posted the watch again, he would not be in the mess he is in.

Funny when you look at the sold watch these are the category's it was listed under. So, it would never have to be authenticated because it was listed in the wrong category. Being authenticated by someone not connected to eBay is not how works here.

@jonagra_2

THIS ^^^^ is the reason you're in the mess you're in.

Had you listed it in the appropriate category, the watch would have been sent to the authenticator before being forwarded to the buyer. And for the return,  it would have had to go back to the authenticator so they could verify that it is the same item being returned.

Unfortunately, this is a problem you are responsible for.

Why would you have listed an $18,000 watch in the anklet category? I would think you'd want it to be verified by ebay's "authenticity guaranteed" team to protect yourself, no?

I have a hard time believing that.

When you prepare a listing, you type in the title, then ebay chooses the category that it thinks is most appropriate. There's NO WAY they'd have chosen Fashion Jewelry > Anklets.

And even if that's what came up, did you not read and ask yourself why they chose anklets and go back to choose the correct category?

So you, a new seller, listed an $18,000 item online for sale, with a "No Returns" policy.

I know for myself and for that kind of money what I would be doing, unfortunately I can not elaborate but there do exist videos on Youtube from sellers in the past who had a buyer dispute over an amount of money in the thousands and how they resolved it. Also unfortunately in some of those cases those sellers spent a tremendous amount of time and resources to pursue the issue but in the end they did get it resolved, best I can tell you.

@jonagra_2

I have another thought.

If you are lucky enough that the buyer is just experiencing remorse and wants to return it, he may have seen your no return policy and though he needed a reason to return.

In the event that you do get your watch back and if you do decide to relist, I have some suggestions:

First and foremost, verify authenticity BEFORE listing because if you do list and sell the watch and if the authenticators deem it to be fake, that'll be a hit on your account for selling a counterfeit item.

  1. List in the correct category. That way, it'll go to the authenticators and a "fake" allegation won't fly. If ebay authenticates it, a buyer can't claim fake.
  2. If you relist, you need way more pictures, closer pictures, well focused pictures and pictures of all angles of the watch, the back of the case, the strap, etc.
  3. ebay allows sellers to upload 24 pictures free of charge! Take advantage of that freebie.
  4. Search a few other experienced sellers' listings of "Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Watch" to see some of the way good listings are displayed.
  5. You want to show every part of the watch to both show the condition accurately as well as any details that prove authenticity.

I posted the watch twice was just trying to get more views on it.

When it was already sold? What was your thinking on that?

How useful is a watch that is worn on the ankle? Is this a new fad? Are any Kardashians involved?

Nothing in your explanation is making any sense to me. 😎

I don't think I've ever seen so many revisions to an item in all the years I've been here. Especially to the Category.

I see so many red flags here and they're not flying from in front of the buyers house.

JMHO.

Can you show a screenshot of what the buyer said in their message when they claimed that?  Don't include their user i.d. in the screenshot (it is prohibited in the Community).
